does it really cause muscle loss and fat gain and all those womenly features..when you think about it if its true that is so ironic that i would take a pill to save my hair that makes me less of a man..i cant get a straight answer ,some people say it does cause muscle loss but hardly any others say it causes moderate muscle loss and some others (including doctors) say its poison and men under 70 shouldnt be touching it..i just want to honestly know in 20 years time will i be regreting using it and looking like women.just like how people in the 60s didnt know the long term side effects of certain types of steroids...i dont want to be a gunea pig :hairy:

Testosterone and not DHT is the regulating androgen as far as muscle tissue is concerned.

So you might gain some muscle on finasteride.

Unfortunately your dick will fall off too, and you will develop a like for panty hose.

hope this helped.

Here are my own observations from someone having been on Finasteride 3 years, and an avid weightlifter since a teen. I had more energy, and was able to gain more muscle mass on Finasteride. Although, I did notice slightly more fatty tissue in my breast, and around the nipple. I lowered my dosage of Finasteride, and this negative side-effect went away over time.

There you go.

Have you had any other sides?

Yes, a slight bout with depression and mental fog in the beginning, and a lowered sexual performance (not being able to maintain as hard an erection for as long); although my actual libido stayed the same. With a reduced dosage, the sexual aspects returned to almost complete normalcy.

On the good side, I also experienced an increase in energy, especially endurance, and over time developed a greater mental clarity, focus and acuity. I also found that I became less aggressive, and more mellow... something that most men might not like to hear, but I didn't mind it. :)Again, that was my experience.

I have been using Propecia for 1 year and Proscar for over two years, during that time my side effects have been virtually zero.

I may have put a little weight on and gone up a bra size or two but my new boyfriend loves me just the same, not like that b**ch I was with before the Propecia, she was a real pain in the ***.

Yes.

It's a pitty that we start on treatments because our men do not want us without hair. These cruel bastards should stay with a bald boyfriend for good!

That will show them. I am off propecia!

Doesnt sound like English is your first language bud.. Maybe the country you work in have idiots for doctors?

Anyhow, Finasteride is not poison! Goddamn, this stuff has been out almost 20 freaking years as proscar and has one of the best safety profiles of any drug I EVER seen!

Keep in mind that men who respond well to Finasteride (almost all) never have the need to come to an online site and post about their Finasteride experiences... The 2% - 4% who do get some type of side-effect flood these sites with horse-sh*t "horror stories" which makes it seem as if it is the "norm" to have some sort of horrible experience.

Take for instance this crap about losing muscle. Testosterone, not DHT, is the main androgen responsible for muscle growth. Finasteride increases testosterone by 15%. INCREASES not decreases my friend.

However, along with increasing testosterone Finasteride also increases estradiol in your system (a form of estrogen that is normally found in males as well). See, because Finasteride inhibits the conversion of testosterone to DHT, there is a higher amount of serum testosterone. As a result some of this excessive testosterone is converted to estradiol via the aromatase enzyme. The end result is a increase of 15% testosterone & estradiol from baseline (pre-treatment).

Normally this extra estradiol will cause no problems in the vast majority of men. However some might be hyper-sensitive to the increase in estradiol resulting in increase fat on the "breast" or, in severe and rare cases, gyno (man-tits).

But again, this is very very rare. If you're that concerned over it look into a herb called Saw Palmetto. Saw Palmetto is not a substitute for Finasteride nor will it stop hairloss in the vast majority of people. However, Saw Palmetto may help to block (not inhibit) estrogen as well as DHT from binding to receptor sites (this is how hormones exert their influence). If interested, take 85-95% standardized extract. Take 320mg - 640mg with food daily (break it up into two doses: one in the AM and one in thee PM). This may help off-set any increase in estradiol from the Finasteride.

Anyhow, dont worry so much man. Finasteride is safe. I've been on it for almost 2yrs and I never had one negative side-effect.
