Does it look like my hair is thinning on the crown or is it a natural twirl?

no some people are born like that which is ironic.

But I will say this...it may have potential to progress. It's usually a tell tell sign when a kid has one of those swirls at the back of the head it could be the beginning.

Androgenetic alopecia does not present as a hair whorl. A hair whorl is a normal attribute of human hair. We all have them. They are just more pronounced in some individuals than others due to hair type and scalp to hair colour contrast.
