Don't use Cabergoline

I see some thread about Cabergoline and maybe some people use it, but I would never use it to combat side effects of Dutasteride or Finasteride:

Cabergoline is a dopamine agonist and according to this message baldness is induced by dopamine treatments pramipexole or ropinirole. I may be that Cabergoline works different, but it is a dopamine agonist just as pramipexole and ropinirole.

That case involved Alopecia, not male pattern baldness. Alopecia is where hair falls out in clumps and falls out all over the body.

I'm actually going to bump this up to the top for different reasons than what the original post was about.

New studies on Cabser/Cabergoline/Dostinex seem to indicate that they can lead to heart valve degradation. These tests were only conducted on Parkinson's Disease patients that were prescribed dostinex etc for treatment.

This means that it's possible that the heart valve degradation only happens in older people, or that it only happens in Parkinson's patients...Since they take a much larger dose than any of us would use.

If you still want to lower your prolactin levels with drugs, may I suggest Selegiline instead. In fact, I've got 40 5mg Selegiline caps coming sometime next week, and I'll report back on what I think of them.

I have seen some weird stuff on dopamine agonist induced hair loss. One guy lost a patch of hair in his beard. At the other exrteme one elderly lady totally lost her crown and most of the top of her head on dop agonists. The pattern was unmistakably androgenetic and was pretty shocking to think it was a woman (the photo did not show her face).
OTOH these are rare side effects. As in a lot more rare than erectile dysfunction on finasteride or dutasteride. Still something to think about.
The heart valve irregularities seem to be much more prevalent but are dependent on length and level of dosage so this may be more of a concern if you are going to use cabergoline long term.

Very true Harold. I wished they had studied the effects of Cabergoline on younger adults without Parkinson's Disease to see if the same results were found. I know that there's a huge percentage of people with very high prolactin levels that take this drug every day...So it wouldn't be hard to add them into the test too.

Most of the people that I've heard of that take Cabergoline to combat the sides from finasteride/dutasteride only take 0.25mg every 3 or 4 days. Or about 4 - 16x less Cabergoline than a Parkinson's patient would take.

does it actually combat finasteride/dutasteride sides effectively?

I've heard some say yes, and some say no. It depends on why you're getting sides. If it's from high prolactin, then yes, cabaser should work for you. Estrogen sides, then probably not.
