There is an article that the very-respected Dr. Robert Bernstein has on his (terrific) website regarding that the hurdles cloning faces in the future if its to become a treatment here in the US. Im beginning to think that 2009 is a little too optomistic myself, and we have to make sure the cloned stem cells that turn into follicles dont begin to behave like fiberblasts after one rest phase. The volunteers who have a few hairs implanted in them now should be able to determine that in 3-5 more years when the stem-cell neogenisis hairs in their heads go through a catagen and telogen. Hopefully they will all regrow more mature follicles, but we have to wait and see. Even if all goes well, and the direction isssue is setted, the re-entry into another anagen phase after the first rest phase issue is settled, and the remote possibility of the cells not behaving and becoming cancerous issue is settled,

THEN
the FDA has to be appeased. My advice is to keep fighting the fight with the big three, good dietary practices, etc. for a few more years. It still may be a while. Lets guess together, eh? 2012-2015 anyone?

I think that multiplication will be avaliable in other countries first.
I think it'll be a LONG time before the FDA approves something like that.
if i had to honestly guess, i'd say at least 10-15 years from now.

Jeffss,
I posted that article over at hairsite. I got a few angry responses from people saying that Bernstein is (along with all transplant docs other than Bosley's docs) afraid of what cloning will do to their businesses. Apparently Bosley has a business deal with Intercyclex and Anderans that they alone will be able to admiister cloning when/if it happens. A surgeon will do your hairline the old way, and use cloning behind it. Thus giving anyone a full head of hair.

Ken Washenik, head of research at Anderans is saying 2009 now. I have no idea if he is making a too optomistic projection. Andereans is in Phase II trials in Enland right now and have claimed to have grown hair on 5 out of 7 trialists. The big test is the first fall out (rest) phase the hairs have. If they re-enalrge and grow like regular donor hairs........its a go. If not, back to the drawing board. I imagine in about 3 years, the first of the guys will start a "shed" of the cloned stem cell induced hairs, so we should know something then.

As far as it "only being available" in other countries. Hey, if it works and medical tourism is heading for England, Netherlands etc.....tremendous pressure will be placed on the FDA to give it a good, hard fast look and not delay if its feasible. If men could, for 10K, have full heads of hair back.....TONS of em' will be headed to Bermuda, England, Mexico, Denmark or wherever it becomes legal.

why do you have to wait three years for the hair to fall out naturally to test whether the next cycle will produce another hair?

can't you just pluck it, and then see if anything grows back. you'd have an answer in a few months. or is that not a new hair cycle?
