Most doctors that viewed my pre-op pics were not very encouraging regarding the number of grafts they thought possible. I was classified as Norwood 7 (very little donor hair available). Based on these respected opinions, I had low expectations and thought I'd be lucky to get 2500 grafts. After viewing my pictures Dr. Wong quoted me 3000 grafts. When I saw him on the day of surgery he said that he could get more grafts because of my skin laxity and my dense donor hair. Given the fact that I'm 55 years old, Dr. Wong recommended a hairline that was appropriate for my age and which would also allow for more coverage over the top and back of my head. The final count: 5,170 grafts!!

My hair transplant was in March 2010 and it's now July 2010. I happy to say, after a long waiting period and many doubts, that my hair is starting to grow. They say it's natural that the newly transplanted hair goes into dormant for up to four months but it didn't register with me until I experienced the long waiting period before the hair started to grow. At any rate, I'm very encouraged at this point and I know I won't really see the final results for another three or four months (they say 8 months before you see the final result). I will post my current pictures in the near future so you can see. So if you're thinking of doing this be prepared for a long wait before you see the results. I'm beginning to feel that it was all worth it!

8 Months? no more like 16months. at 8 months you should have had the initial growth but there will still be more to come and the hairs will get more mature. They say that at 12 months you have 90% of the final result.

Thanks for your encouragement. I see the post from s.a.f stating that the full results won't be known for 12 months. I can believe that! Like I said before, it's one thing being told that the hair goes dormant but it's another thing to actually experience it. It really takes a lot of faith and patience that what was planted will grow! I can also understand now why there are so many people that post about how many grafts were accomplished and pics of the grafts and so few posts after the full results are seen. I'm guessing by that time most people just take it for granted that they now have hair and forget to post a 12 month post op pic. At any rate, I have total confidence in Dr. Wong and he's also a gentleman!
