Dutasteride and sleep loss?

Hey all

I don't know if anyone read the report on Propecia in the latest issue of Men's Heath but it said that some people experience sleep loss on Propecia. I've been taking generic dutasteride for a few months and I'm having trouble getting to sleep. Anyone else have this problem?

Forgive me if a similar topic has been posted before.

My understanding is that it makes it difficult for you to reach REM sleep, which leads to chronic tiredness. I believe that having trouble falling asleep in the first place might be a totally different issue.

Can you describe the problem a bit more?

Yes I've been having trouble reaching R.E.M sleep. It could be other factors other than the dutasteride but after reading this month's Men's Health, it was an eye opener.

Try to rule out other possible causes. For me I know that drinking even one drink can mess up my sleep pretty bad. When I drink heavily on weekends, even if I get a full night sleep, I start the week way more fatigued than when the last one ended.

Are you taking .5mg a day? You might try stepping it down to .25mg or even quarter them and take .125mg. My younger brother is taking it at .125mg a day, and he says that he hasn't noticed any sleeping problems. Then again...he lives off of about 5hrs of sleep a night.

Yeah I take 0.25 every other day which amounts to 0.125

I agree, a lot of it is mental, but not being able to achieve REM sleep is such a pain in the ***.

I even contemplated getting some over the counter meds, but I really didn't want to put that much medication in my body.

Luckily I stumbled upon a hops and lavender combo that I put under my pillow. I got a pretty nice sleep last night, I'm hoping tonight I can make it 2 for 2.

Thank you all for your help!

Something else that I use when working out, but found that it REALLY helps me get good sleep is this
http://www.amazon.com/Hi-Tech-HTP-SOMA- ... B0013TPJKI

RSR38 mentioned it as one of the things he takes as a workout supplement. It's not cheap, but you do NOT need to take the suggested serving size unless you want to feel drunk the next day. I take 1/3 of the serving size and it helps me hit deep sleep basically every night. I got it for my workouts, but it's turned out to help me more than just that area :)

Thanks for the recommendation Raw.

I'm actually looking for additional supplements for working out. I was going to try Creatine but I've heard that increases your testosterone which in turn could increase your DHT levels.

Creatine has mixed reviews on what it does to your DHT production. I've used it regularly the past year and a half, and I don't believe that it's made my hair worse....but I guess I can't really say for sure.

However, I DO notice that it helps me recover quicker between sets, which leads to more reps, which leads to more muscles :)

If you try creatine, I would suggest going to Amazon and getting the micronized creatine from Optimum Nutrition. It's completely tasteless, and 0 calories (any creatine drink mix will have 180-240 calories in it...and will taste like a sandy butthole). I get some juice, put a spoonfull of creatine, then a mouthful of juice and swish it around to dissolve the creatine. Works so much easier!!

Also, I saw that you said in another part of the forums that you think you got the sleeping thing under control. Mind sharing what was up/what you figured out?
