I have been on Avodart/dutasteride since December of '11. I had previously been on generic proscar and propecia for about 8-9 years along with liquid minoxidil for thinning at temples and crown. I am 42 now. Toward the end of last year I noticed that my temples weren't growing back after my shed cycles as they had been. I've been a norwood 2 - 2.5 during this time.
I am now between month 4-5 on dutasteride. The good news is that my hair is shinier and it may be thickening a little over the top of my head. I had a noticeable shed between months 3-4. My hairline has thinned a bit since starting and I've been hopeful it will grow or maintain to earlier levels. (though I've heard stories about permanent hairline erosion with dutasteride) I've used Nanogen fibers to fill in -- which has been great.
BUT... within the past few weeks (around month 4) I've noticed a drop in libido and real signs of ED. I have used cialis when I was on finasteride and it was great. Doesn't seem to be as effective now. At least it's taking longer to work and it doesn't maintain erections like it used to.
A few questions for current or former dutasteride users:
If you've had signs of ED, when did it kick in after you started?
Did the problem resolve itself over time while continuing to take dutasteride? How long did it take?
If you discontinued dutasteride, did the problem resolve itself? How long did it take?
Anybody have other health consequences? When did they start?
If you switched from dutasteride to Finasteride, how did that work for you?
Thanks. Appreciate any feedback.
