To guys who have been on dutasteride for awhile. How has it worked toward the front of your heads? Im not talking about the temporal regions, but along the hairline and a few inches back....has it just maintained or have you had noticeable thickening/regrowth?

i noticed thickening although it could be a combination of the dutasteride and minoxidil too.

so after using the finasteride for those 5 years and then switching over to dutasteride...you noticed even MORE thickening?

anyone else?

i was on finasteride for about 7 years. finasteride was maintaining the hair i had and even grew a bit more. Unfortunately, during the last year, finasteride just wasn't working anymore. I just didn't respond to it. After losing so much hair, I switched to dutasteride and fortunately, it thickened up the front better than finasteride ever did.

now however, i am going through a really bad shed. i am losing a lot of hair throughout. Despite this shed, i still feel that i am above baseline.

I had a total island developing before starting generic dutasteride, but within 9 months it had filled in almost completely and I had some hairline regrowth. I think the majority of my success was from exisiting hair thickening up dramatically but i'm sure i've had some re-growth too.

Check out my pics for a better idea of how it worked for me.

I don't think i've really improved much since then and have cut down my dosage to 0.5mg 3 days a week, as think I reached my maximum results pretty quickly and am happy just to maintain at a lower dose now. Haven't taken any new pics recently but will soon as been using minoxidil foam for 3 months now with some success.

progress looks good...I would now lower your dutasteride dosage though...you cant "maintain" on a lower dose...I would stick with what you have been doing.

thanks

My progress is almost all from using dutas, maybe about 80% and 20% of it from minoxidil.

I get my dutas from http://www.drugdelivery.ca Seems legit, dunno though its hard to say for definate but it is Dr Reddy's. I havn't experienced any major sheds in my time of using either dutas or minoxidil. Sometimes i've styled my hair and thought it looked like it had thinned a bit, but then not long after it seems fine again so i'm either experiencing mild sheds or its just to do with natural cycles.

I think I should be able to maintain on my 3 times a week regimen as it still inhibits more DHT then finasteride, but dramatically reduces the dht blocked in the brain, so i'm kind of looking at the pro's v con's of using it everyday. I'd probs recommend to anyone who's starting dutasteride to use it everyday for about 12-18 months then cut down to 3 times a week.

I dont recommended cutting down after 12-18 months...eventually your follicles will become more sensitive to androgens...lowering your dose will do you no good.

I would agree, don't lower dose unless you have to for a major reason.

You would regret it if you started losing ground again because of it.

Keep to recommended doses for maximum effect

Are you sure about this as i've seen lots of people on this site cut down to 3 times a week and still not seen any adverse effect on their hair. From what I remember 3 times a week still has a better reduction in DHT then finasteride but will not effect DHT in the brain as much as a pill everyday.

Can anyone confirm this either way?

if you decrease the dose your going to decrease the hair count. I didn't realize this when i decreased mine and it did indeed cause a shed that held at a certain point. Now that i went back on it every day it is coming back.

Unfortunatly that graph only shows the comparison of dutasteride everyday, it would be interesting to see a graph which showed a 3 times a week regimen, but I highly doubt this would exist (anyone know?)

I'm not disputing that fact that everyday day is better then 3 times a week, but as dutasteride has unknown long term side effects i'm happy to sacrifice a little of its efficiency for long term piece of mind. If I did experience any down turn in the state of my hair i'd probs go back up to everyday but as long as it is still working better then finasteride (which I feel is true but correct me if I am wrong) I still feel 3 times a week is an effective dosage.

I definately feel that you reach a kind of platue when using dutasteride where you reach your maximum results and then stabilise, which is why for long term health reasons I feel it advisable to reduce the dosage to 3 times a week (providing you dont shed like crazy or start to once again lose the fight) but I am no scientist and it is just my opinion. I feel at 3 times a week i'll keep more hair then if I used finasteride everyday and also avoid the potential unknown long term risks of using dutasteride everyday

Huh?? Just interpolate between the 0.1 mg/day and 0.5 mg/day doses on the graph.

taking .5mg EOD would be like taking .25mg daily.
taking it MWF would be like .21mg daily a week as you just get a day skip. so its 42% of the original .5mg.
These pills have a life cycle in your system. Half life of 5 weeks. But the dosing schedule you take determines the % of blockage. (and the haircount)

finasteride is different tho it has a half life of 6-8 hours... so it needs to be taken daily for effectiveness.

Oh yeah sorry was having a dumb day yesterday lol!

I see what you guys are saying but i'm nervous of the unknown long term sides of inhibiting DHT in the brain and feel 3 MWF instead of everyday will maintain the hair I have without such risks. Yeah it would be more beneficial to use it everyday and if I start to lose ground i'll go straight back onto everyday, but I reckon in the mean time i'll continue with 3 times a week.
