Hello,

I have androgenic alopecia, with a large bald patch forming on one side of my head, and the other side starting off the on the same path. There is still hair there, it''s just getting thinner and less coverage.

I originally tried minoxidil for 2 years, and if it did anything, perhaps it slowed down, nevertheless the hair loss continued.

About 1 month ago I started Finasteride (1mg), obviously there have been no results yet. The only side effects I noticed, were a pain in my balls on day 1 and 2, after that it was plain sailing.

Anyway, after further research, I've learned how the best you can really expect from Finasteride is maintenance, and I was hoping to get that patch at least filled back in somewhat. So, I took my first Dutasteride (0.5mg) pill today. Now it's the evening, and I've had significant trouble gaining an erection. I eventually got there, but it was a challenge.

My question is, will this go away as it's claimed to if you get it with Finasteride. Should I immediately stop Duta and go back to Finasteride?

I call bullshit! Have you read about all the side effects that caused your placebo effect? I've been on 5 ars 20 years. Nothing going on other than in your head!@

I wonder how much of erection difficulties are caused by the placebo effect. The fear that this medicine may make you impotent is enough to cause impotence.

What's anyones thoughts on topical dutasteride? It has a half life of 28days, but it has a large molecule so its harder to absorb in the blood.

I have read about them. I won't rule out the possibility of the placebo effect. Though I went into it thinking that I wouldn't get sides, because I hadn't with Finasteride. I thought I was going to be free from sides for that reason.

1 month for finasteride is nothing. be patient
I don't understand. I'm well aware that 1 month is not much on Finasteride, I still wanted to go for the drug that gave the best results, which is why I switched to Dutasteride. Are you suggesting I stop Duta, and go back on Finasteride?

"My grandmother smoked for 80 years and is still alive, lung cancer is in people's heads"
This seems very apt. Theses side effects have been demonstrated in studies. Sure it's a small portion of people, but some of us are going to get them, that's how statistics work. Just because you're lucky enough to not get any sides, doesn't mean people who do are just lying, that's ridiculous.

You can go back to finasteride. There are a lot of good finasteride reviews with regrow, not only maintenance.

Not denying people get sides. None have been recorded to be permanent. And taking a 0.5 mg dose of dutasteride one time not even 24 hours later is causing your problem. There is a study showing that people that were given a sugar pill that thought it was dutasteride and told about the side effects did have sides. But it was all in their head. Taking a 5ar inhibitor isn't like popping a aspirin. It just doesn't work that way.

I understand that you don't want people spreading misinformation, I was also perfectly willing to admit that it could be placebo. I was looking for reassurance. Before posting this thread, I searched the forums for dutasteride threads, to see if someone had a similar experience, hoping that they had, and that it got better.
Today I haven't had the same issue, so it's possible I had this symptom for the first day while my body adjusted, the same way that I had the pain in my balls. Time will tell.
Your 'I call bullshit' response was obnoxious and not helpful. You shouldn't assume people posting here are lying, I was genuinely concerned. You're in the fortunate majority to have no sides as am I if I only have these limited sides.

Dont care if you thought my post was obnoxious. It is a reality! If more people did actual research reading the studies and got on the medications. And stuck with it for at least a year we would have less balding people. The worst research is done on forums. You are reading the fear mongering that someone else read and reposted. Now people are going to read your post and think "oh sh*t" this medication is so harmful I'm not going to take it. That is how the bullshit gets started.

Unfortunately, the situation has just gotten worse for me. I've had a cough around the time I started finasteride, a chesty cough caused by what I thought was post-nasal drip. After all these weeks I've been on antibiotics and sh*t wondering when this will clear up. It's obviously the inflammation of the nose that is a side effect of this drug. Is that in my head too? Even though for the past 3 weeks I thought I just had a cough?

So I'll ask, are you aware of this, and is it possible it goes away? Instead of crying about how there's a viscous cycle of negative info, how about you drop the hostility or get lost?

Never had a cough! Got puffy eyes and stuffed up nose from generic India finasteride. I no longer take finasteride only brand avodart. If your on generic you could be allergic to the fillers

I appreciate the response.
I was taking finasteride all this time obviously, generic brand, now i've switched to Duta which is soft capsule but still generic.

Both of these drugs have 'runny nose' or 'nose inflammation' as a side effect. I guess I'll sit through this for a few more days with the duta, and hope that now I've switched it was something in the finasteride pills. God this is shitty. I thought I was basically side free, while I cough up a metric tonne of mucus every day. If it stays like this it's definitely not doable.

On the positive side, I checked both drugs, and there are some different fillers for them both. I've never been allergic to a medication before, so this would be a first, so I find it harder to believe I'm allergic to the fillers since A. I've probably had these fillers in something else before, though not for certain and B. It is a listed side effect. The inflammation in the nose that is, causing a constant post-nasal drip, build up in the lungs which needs to be coughed up.

I wish I had more info on this, it's really hard to find. I guess I'll take duta 2 more days and speak to my Doctor on Monday.

I never had a problem with brand medications only generics. Be it prescription or over the counter allergy pills.

The same happened to me as well no erection problems on finasteride took dutasteride for 2 days the second day i got weak erections
it made me scared that i might end up with weak erections on finasteride as well and it's just a matter of time
do you think people who got sides from dutasteride won't be the same on finasteride?
