So I have been on dutasteride (1mg/day) for a year now. Around 10 months ago I developed depression and existential crisis. Wasn't sure whether that was connected to the medication.

Apart from that, and that's even worse is a red/flushed face, moon face, wrinkles (crow's feet, probably due to combination of dry skin and puffy face in the wrong regions).

I am going to stop taking the drug now. Just not worth keeping my hair if everything else (physically and mentally) deteriorates.

Has anyone experienced reversal of skin changes/wrinkles around the eyes after cessation? It will take a few months for dutasteride to leave my system, so any positive outlook would help immensely.

Thank you!

Actually my post was a bit imprecise. I used 0.5mg/day for the first 7 months, wasn't that much better, but I thought I can bear the sides, then upped to 1mg. My guess is that it's due to reduced allopregnanolone, thus reduced stress tolerance and high cortisol.

Hair wise it generally just let me maintain, which finasteride didn't do. No regrowth.

Side-effect wise no difference between 0.5mg and 1mg/day I meant.

Why did Ashton Kutcher take it for 15 years and looks fine? It’s not that

good question and I asked myself the same thing. I honestly think it's increased stress -> high cortisol due to reduced allopregnanolone (thus reduced GABA action). Could that be possible?

absolutely. Thing is, I didn't change anything else. I am definitely hoping it's not the dutasteride because I'd really would like to stay on it. Will probably let my 5AR/DHT/Allopreg creep back up and see how I feel.

we’re you moisturizing your skin? Did you tan?

If not why even get mad if you didn’t care about it in the first place. Just eat healthy take care of skin drink lots of water stay out of the sun.

Did you get gyno from it ?
It will persist in your system for 6 months due its long half life

I stay out of the sun and moisturize twice daily. I drink enough and only still water.

No gyno at least

You should've given 0,5 mg at least 1 year and possibly up to 2 years for full evaluations. 7 months isn't enough for a precise conclusion.

Well, 1mg definitely wouldn't do any harm hair-wise and I had the same side effects
Not really. I read countless people forwhom dutasteride was working at typical 0.5 mg dose, but since they thought higher doses would lead to more DHT inhibiting, they said "why not try to up the dose and maybe i would see more hair growth".

All in all, its safe to say that it lead to some form of AR upregulation and even reducing the dose back to 0.5 mg didn't work like it used to. If dutasteride isn't saving hair at 0.5 mg, it's more reasonable to introduce more treatments and save yourself the 2x Avodart price.
