I've read a few articles arguing for the effectiveness this algae might have related to hair growth. Was just wondering what people thought of the extract and whether or not it could be used as a safe extra in hair loss regimes.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24252083 and the more recent one http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4737831/

The recent study was ex-vivo hair follicle cultures. So at least it was actual human hair for once. The key take aways:

"....resulted in elongation of the hair shaft in cultured human hair follicles.."
"....EAFE induced an increase in IGF-1 expression in DPCs."

I am still researching a proper topical and vehicle. I may attempt to dissolve the powder extract (from pills?) into my melatonin + neogenic. I think it's worth trying and oral is apparently a mild anti inflammatory as well so that can't hurt.
