Ed Westwick's hairline?

Hey everyone!! so i've been studying mature hairlines and male pattern baldness etc. It's still quite confusing because I see some people with quite a lot of recession being labeled norwood 2s (mature hairline) and others with the same recession being referred to as Norwood 3... :dunno: anyway I was checking out some celebrities hairlines and came across Ed Westwick.. what would you consider him? Mature hairline with a high forehead or something more? He seems to hide his recession very well since he has pretty good hair!

I think it's not a mature hairline, but he's just going bald.

Yeah, that if you like is a NW2.5, I've got a very similar pattern except with more recession.

One of the only ways to disguise it from others, is to slick it back like he has done, but then of course you're left with loads of hair at the back and a massive forehead at the front, which looks a bit funny on a guy under 30 in my opinion. No win situation really.

I wouldn't take it too seriously. There seem to be several Norwood charts, and at the end of the day it's just a guideline of how hair loss progresses. No way everyone's hairline is going to fit the pictures exactly.

Plus some people are overly harsh or lenient on what constitutes a certain Norwood, so one man's NW2 could be another's NW3.5. Even different pictures can confuse the issue - like how Westwick's loss looks much worse in the first picture than the second. It doesn't matter really. (Btw I'd put him at NW3, maybe NW2.5)

I just watched part of a recent ep of gossip girl and his hair looks so much better. It looks thicker, fuller, and like a NW1.

That's the magic of tv, lol. Look at Hugh Laurie in House!

The norwood chart is actually not a chart of progression but where your hair loss stops. However, since hair loss tends to move along with the chart for most guys we usually refer to it that way

The norwood chart is taken far too religiously by many people. For example, this guy's hairline could have been like that at age 11, and people would still suggest balding. I reckon this could just be a mature hairline.

I've never seen an 11 year old with a hairline like that. It's definitely "balding" of some sort.

The thing is, when guys have a receding hairline that stops at some point (whether it's an NW1 or NW3), as long as they maintain density, it doesn't really matter. They don't look 'balding' at all.

I think he's going to thin out in a couple of years. My hairloss looked VERY similar to his. Recession, and then thinning. I wonder how his crown look.

Yep, true, my bad! What I meant was that OP shouldn't worry too much about what constitutes each Norwood stage, as everyone's hair loss looks and progresses slightly differently, and the stages are just general guidelines.

Bingo. Look at Daniel Day-Lewis, great example of a NW3 who's density and hairline has been rock solid for 10+ years.

Great example there with Daniel Day Lewis! Just look at Christopher Nolan!! I mean that's some pretty deep recession but his hair has been like that for ages i remember seeing pics of him directing memento back in 2000 and it was exactly the same! my dad? same deal i look at pics from his wedding he was around 28 and at least a norwood 3! I guess anyone would have said he would have been bald 5 years later.. well he's now 52 and he still has the same amount of hair as he had then! Only receded corners no thinning whatsoever in the crown. This male pattern baldness makes it so damn difficult to know if you actually should start doin something about it or if you would just be spending money for no reason.. THe only thing that I've noticed is that the very first sign that you really have male pattern baldness is when your leading edge (frontal forelock) starts going.. or crown but that usually happens later..

Maybe lots of celebs do. But then again you could stay Norwood 2 your whole life it’s hard to tell.

It could be that he stopped balding when he hit this stage. I did. My grandpa did. I receded when i was 18 in like a month, and haven't lost a single follice since.
Exactly. MyNW1 hairline has been the exact same over the past year as well for example .
