Effects of Switching from Liquid (3 months) to Foam

I apologize in advance, as I know this is probably a repeat topic, but it takes forever filtering out the useless info on these forums.

My situation:
I have diffuse thinning of the crown area. I am 20 years old, so thinning has only been occuring for the past couple years. I started using minoxidil 2% about a year and a half ago, but stopped using when I started on Finasteride (mistake). I have now been on Finasteride for about 5 months now. About 2 months ago, I started with the minoxidil 5% liquid. I'm pretty sure I've noticed my hairloss stop (or decrease significantly) as a result of the Finasteride. I have yet to notice any regrowth.

I still have a month's worth of liquid left. I went to order some more off HairLossTalk.com today but they only sell the foam now. I have no problem switching to it, I just have a few questions:

1) Does it really make that much of a difference compared to the liquid? (85% as compared to 55%)
2) Is there any kind of turnover period? Will it take another 4 months (roughly) to start regrowing, or will it continue where the liquid left off? Also, will shedding occur at the time of making the switch?

I would appreciate hearing from those of you who have made the swtich from liquid to foam, whether you've had positive results or not. Thank you.

Another thing I'd like to add... When reading about the foam on HairLossTalk.com, there was a point made that the foam has greater success rates than the liquid largely due to the fact that the liquid is more irritating and therefore people don't use it as often.

From my experience using the liquid, I do find it rather irritating, and I get quite bad flaking, despite using Nizoral. I've never let this stop me from applying it twice daily though. I've missed it a couple times, but for the most part I'm good at remembering. I know it's still early, but I have yet to notice regrowth, but will the foam make any difference seeing as how I'm already using the liquid twice daily on a regular basis? Or is it other aspects of the foam that give it the higher success rate?

make the switch man. foam is not irritating at all, doesn't leave residue on your scalp or hair, takes just a minute to dry, and you can style your hair 10 minutes later. it also thickens your hair and can act as a styling aid.

i started on foam, but i have read alot about people who have switched. it seems that some of them saw a slight increase in shedding (perhaps due to increased absorption) but you do not re-start the minoxidil cycle. it's still minoxidil and the foam will keep working along with the progress you've seen so far.

Rob_x_22 (i think is his name, look in success stories) says he used liquid for many months and then switched to foam and he thinks the foam helped his regrowth accelerate.

if you want to get on foam now, you can use liquid at night and foam in the morning until your liquid is done.

it is believed that foam has a higher success rate due to better absorption. i'd say make the switch, i wouldn't be suprised if liquid minoxidil soon becomes a thing of the past.

So you don't waste the minoxidil liquid you have, simply use the foam in the morning and the liquid at night until you use it all up.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll do that.

I'll let you know how things turn out. My minoxidil and finasteride cycles seem to coincide as far as regrowth is concerned, so I hope I can report some success in the next few months.
