I have been loosing my hair for the last 4-5 years.
minoxidil - At first I started using minoxidil w/ no side effects, however, I stopped for about a year and when I started up again I started getting VERY large flakes. I was using the brand name (Rogaine) both times. I switched to other brands and the flakes got worse. I learned from this website that it probably had to do w/ PPG. I learned of Dr. Lee's products and started using them (w/o PPG). I started w/ his basic minoxidil 5%, then went to Xandrox 5%, and recently to Xandrox 15% (only at night). The reason I kept moving up his product list because his products didn't seem to be working, however, I don’t have any flakes. The minoxidil 5% w/ PPG seemed to work okay (peach fuzz), but with black hair these LARGE flakes were not acceptable. Does the fact that his products dry fast determine how much is actually absorbed to the applicable areas, thus making the solution less effective? Any recommendations on effective non PPG minoxidil (Genhair any good)? Finally, do higher doses of minoxidil really help? I am not convinced that this is the case.
spironolactone - I recently stated to use this 5% formula from Dr. Lee once a day at night. It seems nobody is really sure to apply this prior to or after minoxidil. Any reccomendations? Is once a day okay? Is spironolactone the best bet for this type of treatment as opposed to Flutamide?
TRICOMIN – I try to use this once a day (is that often enough?). Does it matter if I use this at the same time as minoxidil and spironolactone, or do I want to use this, allow it to dry, then apply minoxidil and spironolactone? Any advice on this product?
finasteride/dutasteride – was getting Propecia from a local retail pharmacy. I recently learned of how one can obtain Generic finasteride for much cheaper. I bought FINCAR and will be using 1.25 mg per day. Does increasing the dosage help more? It seems that dutasteride is more effective, from what I read, but hasn’t been FDA approved for hair loss? Also, I read that it takes much longer to get out of your system than finasteride. My wife and I have two kids, but want more and I am worried about any side effects. Dr. Lee indicated that it isn’t a concern re: birth defects. I am not worried so much from a birth defect perspective, but wonder if anyone knows how it may effect a boy’s (who conceived when the father was on the drug) ability to have children later in life?
SHAMPOO - I use Nioxin, but haven’t really been able to read anything about this product on this website. Nioxin claims to reduce or get rid of DHT… Is 2% Nizoral a good product? What do you all recommend for shampoo?
LAESR COMB - I even bought a laser comb and use it a few times a week. My wife teases me and calls it my light saber, which I tell her I am defending the universe from baldness! Any comments on this (not the light saber, but the laser comb)?
My hair seems to be receding faster at my temples since changing my minoxidil and want to stop/ slow it down (Norwood 2 - NW3). My scalp seems to tingle and itch slightly, which as I understand, is a side effect of loosing your hair. As you can see I have or am trying many things. I know finasteride is helping and think dutasteride will work better, but am looking for confirmation. I also am looking for an effective non PPG minoxidil and whether minoxidil itself is sufficient or if Aceliac Acid (sp?), Retin A, and other things added are worth it. I don’t know anything about any shampoo and would also like feedback on Tricomin, spironolactone and the Lasercomb.
