Everyone in my family could sell hair, except me!

I am a 63 year old female in good health and I tend to look a bit younger than my years. I guess I started noticing my gradual hair loss about ten years ago but it was manageable until the last few years. While it is generally over-all thinning, the top and crown is where you could actually see scalp if not styled the right way. The rear crown got really bad to where I would use hair make-up to fill in the quarter-sized bald spot because I could not cover it any more.

My natural hair is now white. I began graying when I was in my 20's and have colored my hair off and on for years. I have three daughters, two sons and fourteen grandchildren and a wonderful, supportive husband.
I started using Rogaine May 31, 2011. My hair was so hard to manage and impossible to style that I bought two wigs to wear each day while using the Rogaine (which, by the way, almost looked too good as I felt like everyone would know--not because you could tell I was wearing a wig, but because I never had such nice hair before!) But by the end of June when the weather got hot and the wig got uncomfortable, I decided to quit Rogaine. Even if my hair grew back, I would have to continue using it and my hair was just too unattractive with the product in it, and it faded my hair coloring. I have been talking to Kevis for quite some time, but the cost of the product keeps turning me away. But I like the idea that I would only have to use it for a year. I kept researching and found Revolution Hair. A few years before, I used their product when they were called Restoration Hair. I saw that they got some bad press for not giving refunds, but when I used it I got a refund right away when I asked for it. The reason I asked for a refund was because around the same time I went to a specialist who thought my hair issues were thyroid related, so I thought that I would just treat my thyroid and not do anything else for the time being. After some time on Thyroid harmones, my dermatologist did a scalp biopsy and my hair loss type is telogen effluvium. So here I am at the end of June of 2011 with my thyroid squared away for several years now, but still hair-loss issues. I decided to give Restoration Hair, now called Revolution hair, another try. I now also know a lot more about hair loss and know that even something that is going to work will take a long time to show results. So I can tell you what my results are so far. I have been using the RH products for almost three months. I absolutely love their shampoo and conditioner and the serum only needs to be used 2-3 nights a week while I sleep. My hair is in super good condition, the color does not fade, and I am seeing very subtle results. Because I have tiny new hairs growing in, my hair overall looks fuller and thicker. One of my daughters asked me the other day if I was wearing my wig or was this my real hair (It was my real hair). Now I am not at all where I want to be with this, but the products are so easy to use and are just wonderful. So for that alone, I am happy. The bald spot in the back is no longer a round spot but more like a wide line that is easier to cover. RH says that most people only have to use the full line of products for a year, but I think that you may have to still use the product once a week (shampoo and/or conditioner and/or serum?) to keep the DHT at bay. It is cheaper than Kevis and goes a longer way. If, after a full year, I am not happy with the results then I may try Kevis or a laser comb. But I am hoping and praying that this works for me. So far, my hair is back to being livable! I am not embarrassed to go out with my own hair, though I am still quite thin on top but I can cover it with styling--unless there is a strong wind! I am taking monthly pictures to better evaluate progress. It got worse before it started getting better and since my natural hair is white, I take the pictures a few days after a touch-up, otherwise it is too hard to tell.

I wish you all well in your journey to solving your hair loss. I firmly believe that most of us will be able to better our situation--clear out the DHT that is already in the follicle, prevent future build-up, get blood circulating in the scalp, eat well and take necessary vitamins. That's my plan of attack right now. I hope to learn more from all of you.
