I never had wrinkles or a chubby face. People will find things they've never noticed before about themselves and attribute it to things. The mind is incredibly powerful sometimes.

Come on HairLossTalk.com.. Why is it when we stop the medication then these things suddenly dissapear? Do we stop noticing them?

You of all people should be sympathetic to these uncommon side effects, you got quite a few of them too. Were they in your head too?

Those things have happened to me but I guess I won't know for sure until I stop Propecia (now dutasteride). I have my suspicions. When I switched from .5 mg Propecia to 1 mg Propecia I had a pretty sudden weight gain during that month. But I can't isolate it as the cause either.

No chubby face here, actually my head has shrunk, like that guy in beetlejuice. I guess Merck forgot to put that in as a side effect of finasteride, oh well! :freaked:

Not me

I was on finasteride 5 or so years, had some slowly creeping significant effects that I've posted about here before, and which with close attention I could have averted - and all of which I've recovered from after several months (save for the weight, which is still coming off) -- but wrinkles weren't one of them. I can't say on puffy face since I put on weight, and I've always had full cheeks, but in the first few years I did not put on weight or develop a 'puffy face'.

I'm over 30 now, and aside from the very fine lines running under the eyes (not full crow's feet, just stuff most every guy over 20 who has been in the sun gets) from smiling and facial movement, lines that most people don't even see, I've got excellent skin, as good in appearance as it was in my early 20s (with the advantage of no acne, or rare acne).

On the flip side, a lot of guys taking these drugs are in their early-to-mid 20s and beyond, and that's exactly when guys do begin to notice fine lines and their faces fill out. It's likely mostly coincidental. And that these lines appear doesn't mean they're going to keep appearing at that rate; my own 'lines' appeared in my early 20s, maybe even early, and have barely changed in the next decade.

This is true, but does this explain why these fine lines and chubby faces seem to dissipate once these guys in their mid 20's come off the drug? I think i've seen more than enough cases that say their fat faces and fine lines seem to fade after they drop the drug. Go look at the alt.baldspot archives.

I have tried topical spironolactone with good results in the beginning.. that went on to a bad shed later. At the time, i didn't understand the shedding phoenomena and stopped usage.

I have a pretty good idea why it worked so well.. I absorb topicals like mad.. I even used Ru58841 for alittle while and absorbed too much.. right now i'm letting my system get to equilibrium before i bring back topical anti-andros. i have to use tiny dosages or very low concentrations.. it's very irritating.

I will say one thing.. Ru58841 is very real and very powerful.
