Hi all,

I have been on finasteride for almost 3 years now. For almost all the time, it has been great. My hair thickened up and the shedding came down to almost 5-15 hairs a day (that I could count). However, all of a sudden, over the last month, I have seen an increased shed. I can count about 50-80 hairs a day, when I wash my hair, style it etc. I am getting worried.

Has anyone else noticed an increased shed this far into using finasteride. Could it be a seasonal thing or does it mean that finasteride is losing its effectiveness and that I should look at dutasteride?

I use Tricomin and nizoral too. I never got into minoxidil as I did not want to go through the hassle of applying it twice a day.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The heart break never ends !!!!!!!!!!!

Could be that the hair you stimulated when you first started finasteride have all reached the end of their anagen phase at around the same time. It could also be that genetics is catching up with you. finasteride never loses it's effectiveness to lower DHT, it's just that your follicles could have become more senstive to what remains. I would wait before starting dutasteride. The shed hairs will come back. If you notice that they are coming back thinner and weaker then you know you may have change your regimen.
