Hey folks.

Just come across this forum recently. It seems more active than others so I thought I'd pick your brains.

I've bitten the bullet and decided to jump on Propecia to at least try it out and see if I'm OK on it. My cousin's been on it a month now and he's perfectly fine with it.

The reason for this post is because I've just had some blood test results come in and I wanted to share them to see if anyone could offer any advice on what they see in relation to whether i'm in a good place to start the drug.

All my results have come back in the normal range. However I am now a little concerned seeing some on the lower end of that normal range - one being DHT. As I understand it, Propecia can lower this by as much as 60%:

TESTOSTERONE: 17.4 nmol/L
(normal range: 7.6 - 31.4)

OESTRADIOL: 106 pmol/L
(normal range: <192)

FOLICLE STIM. HORMONE: 2.8 IU/L
(normal range: 1.5 - 12.4)

LUTEINISING HORMONE: 7.1 IU/L
(normal range: 1.7 - 8.6)

FREE TESTOSTERONE: 0.33 nmol/L
(normal range: 0.30 - 1.00)

SEX HORMONONE BINDING GLOB: 35 nmol/L
(normal range: 16 - 55)

DHT: 1.36 nmol/L
(normal range: 0.33 - 3.01)

I appreciate that none of you are doctors and that the advice given here is not professional. But I also trust that there are a lot of you on here who have done considerable research on the subject and maybe your own blood tests to be in a position to provide good advice from knowledge and experience.

Any feedback would be hugely appreciated.

Jonny - 39 years old.

Hey mate, it was roughly about 10:30am.

Ya your free test and dht aren’t very high, however most argue that it’s scalp dht that really matters. I haven’t seen any data correlating Serum DHT and propecia effectiveness so not much we can tell you.

If you are significantly balding I say go for it, not too much to lose in the end right

Unfortunately serum hormone levels really do not seem to correlate with balding. Many men with hypogonadism still bald (possibly it is even a risk factor). It seems to be localized DHT production (in the follicle) and a much smaller factor of serum DHT being the culprit. Finasteride is a drug where you throw the baby out with the bath water.
