finasteride and blood in semen?

I have been taking finasteride at a dose of 1mg/day since September 7 2011 and two days ago I noticed a little bit of blood/red color in my semen. I saw the same today. Not really sure if I should immediately stop the medication or wait to see if the side passes. I have no pain or other sides. Anyone had a similar problem?

See and doctor, but don't drop the finasteride. People are WAY too quick to attribute any perceived side effect or change in their body as a reaction to finasteride.

Thanks for the replies. My physician is not an expert on finasteride and he let me know that when I met him to get a prescription. He simply stated I should be knowledgeable of the sides and the risk I'm taking. If I go see him he will simply tell me to stop the medication. That is not worth a doctors visit.

I think the best thing I can do is stop taking finasteride starting today. Wait until the side vanishes. Then try to get positive hairloss results with 0.5g finasteride/day (still thinking whether or not I should do this). If the sides return for that I would stop finasteride.

Um, you really should see a doctor asap.

I'm not trying to scare you, but blood in the semen can be caused by serious underlying conditions completely unrelated to finasteride such as testicular cancer. To ignore it and hope it goes away is not a very good idea. Even if it doesn't happen again something caused it and you should get yourself checked out.

The presence of blood in either semen or urine needs to be investigated. It maybe be just due to you taking finasteride , however, to be on the safe side visit your gp and get your self checked out.

blood in semen is 80% prostate related
possible bladder & seminal vescicles involved

fina is surely a potential candidate but there r a lot of other
possibilities like infection(more common), parasites(rare) and neoplasis

don't be scared, but see an uro and get sperm analysis plus antibiogram done asap

keep us informed

I figured I would update everyone on the situation.

Oct 9: I stopped taking finasteride. Had blood in semen
Oct 11: A burning sensation started in my left testicle which lasted for 48 hours.
Oct 15ish: Ball Ache started in my left testicle
Oct 17: No more blood in semen, yay!
Oct 25: Ball ache has stopped!

Now it may be a bit premature to celebrate but seems like the sides have passed. I threw all my finasteride away and will never use the drug again. The sides scared the sh*t out of me.

You f****ing scum bag,

Really? I'm a scum bag? Why? Because I don't use scare tactics to get people to accept my point of view?

You're waste of the air that you breathe.
