Finasteride And Conceiving - Sperm Count Concerns

Hey everyone.

A little background just for info: currently 38, started noticing a slight recession at 26, but didn't do anything about it until literally 10 years later. Started taking finasteride 1mg/day on 2016 along with minoxidil. It stopped hairloss right away, the effects were noticeable (it practically froze shedding) in the first few weeks. Hairline has stayed the same the last 3 years and even noticed a little improvement on the temples. Regarding side effects: I had literally no side effects that were noticeable, either mental or physical. I would probably not be writing this post if we hadn't been trying to conceive with my wife for the last year and a half, to no avail.

I've read some studies online that suggest finasteride can have a negative impact on sperm count and quality and advised users to stop if trying to conceive. I quit finasteride a few weeks ago and the shed started right away, pretty massive to tell the truth. Not really noticeable YET, but it's a matter of time of course. You can obviously understand why I want to hop back on finasteride asap.

What has been your experience while trying to conceive while on finasteride? I'm looking for anecdotal evidence only to know if this is widespread or not, I still got an appointment to get my sperm count checked in the next few days.

a massive shed few weeks after fina? are you positive it is because of fina? im asking because seems pretty fast, you should have consequences in few months, but i guess it depends on your aa grade.
in my knowledge you can conceive while on fina, just be sure to use precaution when your wife will be pregnant.
IF your sperm count is not up to your expectation i would suspend it and do a cycle of vitamin E tochoperols (which are very good at it, but not exactly friends of your hair..)

Well yes, In my case finasteride both started and stopped working in weeks time. I don't know how much of it is psychosomatic or how much it actually affects me so quickly. You know how this things can be. Back when I started, my shedding stopped in a matter of weeks, and when I stopped, same thing but backwards.

Thanks for the Vitamin E tip, I will look into it.

I was on 1mg for about 3 years, dropped to .25mg about 2 months ago. Had a fertility test done about one month into the reduced dose and the count was really good, no issues at all. I mention the doses for information purposes I have no reason to think it was affecting me at 1mg. I did notice some sides at 1mg but hell I'm 48 so not sure if that's due to age or finasteride.

But, if you've been trying for over a year with no results you and your partner need to get things looked at. To be blunt you should have been in to see a specialist after six months with no luck,
