finasteride and gynecomastia

There is no evidence that people with pre-existing gynecomastia will be more susceptible to further development of tissue while taking finasteride. I myself have a small amount of tissue left over from puberty, but it has not gotten any worse in 1.5 years on finasteride.

However, if you are an adult and already have actively developing tissue, you should stay away from finasteride. Also, there are a number of factors that will significantly increase your risk of developing gyno, such as being overweight, having high estrogen levels, alcoholism, and even marijuana use has shown a link. Interestingly, when I started finasteride I was a bit overweight, drank like a fish and smoked marijuana quite regularly, but never developed gyno. I experienced some breast pain initially for a short time, but this went away.

I am an adult with no actively developing tissues. No drug and no weight problem. Can I take the risk with finasteride?

Even if you had all the risk factors, I would still recommend you give it a go. Gyno does not develop overnight, so if you are unfortunate enough to have this symptom, you will likely notice it before it gets too bad and will be able to stop treatment. Even if you did develop some tissue, it would likely go away shortly after stopping finasteride.

There is a small risk though, but it's ultimately up to you if you want to take it. Just remember, gyno is a very rare side effect. It is common in older men who take it for prostate issues, but extremely uncommon in young men taking it for male pattern baldness.

Understood. It's very unfortunate that there does not seem to be a better option than finasteride for those whose hair is not in stage for a surgery. Develping gyno is just as damaging to one's psyche as going bald if not more.
