Very interesting thread over on HLH. Seems like "brain fog" and sexual side effects might actually both be caused by neurological damage.

Hope not, not that i have sexual sides or anything but the neurological damage part worries me a bit.

And what's the most uncomfortable is that you can't test whether it's damaging you or not. I doubt any doctor runs allopregnanole tests.

This is related to my thread that I just posted asking about lower doses of Finasteride.

I am a testimony to the research you've posted about. I experienced severe panic attacks, anxiety, and depression for two years. And because Merrck never expressed that it was a possibility, I never assumed it could have been the propecia. I just kept on taking the damn stuff.

I was taking 1.25mg every two days. I'm curious to see if 0.5mg is a safer dosage.

But either way, I can assure you, it DOES have an effect on the brain. A very brutal and painful one, one that can destroy your social life and cause you to think about ending it all.

The fact that I'm considering a lower dose just shows how much I hate the idea of losing my hair. Good lord I'm vain.

Wow. If anyone hasn't read the linked thread, read it now.

This is the most comprehensive theory for why finasteride can cause long term sides that I've ever seen. I've always thought that the idea everyone complaining about long-term sides was just psychosomatic was complete bunk.

It will require a lot more research to substantiate, but the theory does seem to make sense at first glance. I had a bit of a sissy fit and was going to quit propecia last week, and then kept on it. This is making me reconsider again.

The one consolation of this theory seems to be that it'll take most people some time to cause any serious damage with finasteride.

It's all stuck behind the synthesis of allopregnanole from progesterone, which needs 5AR: we need it in our spine to move and in our brain to feel happy and recover from faint damages. A way has to be found how to test the activity of 5AR and restore it. Unfortunately, we can't measure our allopregnanole levels, so it's impossible to say for sure, if finasteride's affecting us mentally or not. But there are other and measurable 5AR2 derivatives from which somewhat accurate conclusions can be made.

If you walked out in front of a car and got hit you'd blame it on minoxidil. I'll make an example of what you would say if it happened.

got hit by car today broke both legs and have to eat by straw because of minoxidil

15 years on finasteride it never happened

Not trying to be a prick Timi but every time a side effect topic pops up you say minoxidil gave it to you..enough already.

You can take 5-HTP to upregulate allopregnenolone but I believe 5AR type II should not affect the brain in humans (only type I).

check your dht levels after going off the drug for a bit, if they're more or less normal then your 5ar levels are fine
