finasteride & Face Wrinkles?

I've read conflicting comments about the effects of finasteride on facial wrinkles.
Some say it hurts, while others say it helps.
I've been on finasteride for 5 months and I haven't (yet) seen a difference...but my wife thinks my skin may actually gotten a bit better.
I'm wondering about the long-term though. finasteride does seem to help those with acne...but the reduction of oil in skin can't be good for older men (I'm 39)

finasteride increases acne as a rule usually on the back, certainly has for me although not major.

Otherwise its had little effect on the skin, haven't seen skin less oily. I am over 40 and unfortunately wrinkles begin to come. I swear by Oil of olay eye stuff a clear gel, I have hardly any creases.

I am in the same age group. I normally tend to have very oily skin, but using finasteride dried it up quickly. Since I have gone off finasteride, it is oily again.

I read somewhere that DHT is associated with oily skin, in which case - as johnnyseville suggests - taking finasteride should be good for your complexion.

If you want to retard facial wrinkles and fine lines you really need a good broad spectrum sunscreen. UVA does a very good job of breaking down collagen and elastin, and these rays are present all year round in all weather conditions.

I've looked into this before and it's difficult to say. Either way, I don't think any change will be cosmetically significant. From what I remember, high levels of testosterone are good for your skin while high levels of DHT are bad. As finasteride increases T and lowers DHT, you'd think that would suggest finasteride is actually good for wrinkles. But there is probably be more to it...I don't know. finasteride, from what I read, may also affect skin thickness. It has to do with hormones, is quite complicated and not really conclusive.

minoxidil, on the other hand, isn't good for your skin (again, any changes probably aren't even noticeable for most). Someone posted a an article recently saying that it interfered with collagen synthesis or something like that.

Yes, but that's a good thing for hair when applied to the scalp. Apparently, male pattern baldness involvses collagen changes and a “fibrotic incapsulationâ€￾ of hair follicles, which usually leads to loss of normal blood supply and subsequent miniaturization and prevention of hair from normal cycling. minoxidil seems to be able to retard that process.

Regarding wrinkles, are you saying skin collagen is only affected at the areas where minoxidil is applied, i.e on top of the head? If so, what about systemic absorption? Thanks

Sugar causes half of all aging because it directly fucks with collagen, fact.

What about Propecia does that mess with collagen?

My skin is way better. I look hot.

No one ever said it did.
