Hi I am 22 years old and have some minor hair loss that will likely get a lot worse. Male relatives on both sides of my family have significant hairloss. Currently I have some temporal recession and thinning of the crown. I have tried finasteride twice and experienced some side effects, watery semen and less spontaneous erections the predominant ones. I have scared myself off twice after only a week or two each time when I noticed the sides and read negative stories online about sexual, mental and various other side effects.
I am currently using topical spironolactone and minoxidil but am not confident that these two will greatly help my hairloss long term. I really want to take finasteride and see if the sides clear up after a couple of months as most claim but I am very scared of permanent side effects. I have also read that inhibiting 5AR Type 2 affects other conversions in the body rather than just testosterone to dht and that this may in itself be harmful. How much truth is there to these stories and can anybody put my mind to rest when it comes to the safety of finasteride?
