Finasteride To Maintain, Minoxidil To Grow?

I have been on finesteride for a little over 3 months and haven’t noticed much of a difference other than maybe some shedding. I want to try minoxidil but want to confirm that the finesteride will stop the hair loss progress.

I want to try and grow some hair and once i’m happy, stop and continue with finesteride, however it seems from my small amount of research that the hair returned will be reliant on the minoxidil. Is this true? If so I would need to take both for the rest of my life? Seems crazy.

Firstly, you should give finasteride at least 1 year before judging its efficacy.

Secondly, using both finasteride and Minoxidil is a smart combo against hairloss, since they work synergestically (finasteride against DHT, and minoxidil for boost effects).

However, once you rely on finasteride or minoxidil, you can't stop either of them, hoping that finasteride can maintain minoxidil gains or vice versa. These drugs are practically for life as long as you want hair on your head (if you are a good responder).

Give finasteride 12/16 months by itself first, if you are maintaining but not getting regrowth add minoxidil. If you are not maintaining switch to dutasteride, give that a year, if getting no regrowth add minoxidil. Some people are really good responders to fina/duta and can get great regrowth from them alone. No need to touch minoxidil unless you really need to.
