Finesteride Questions

So I have my 30-day supply of generic Proscar 5mg for thinning hair. While it isquite easy to score and divide the tablets into 2 halves, it's prettyhard to get it into 4 "pieces" without powdering the pill. Therefore, I'm left with 2.5mg doses so far. Is this OK, dosage amount that is, for thinning hair or is it too high? I have read that Finesteride is errific for lowering the occurrances of prostate cancer but mine isn't enlarged or anything like that. This drug is strictly being used for hair loss - nothing else.

Would 2.5mg, in your opiniuons, be OK or should I continue to reduc my doses to 1mg or as close to that as possible? In other words, will any ill effects come of the 2.5 or even 5mg doses?

Well side effects are more common at higher dosages and you'd be paying twice as much. Splitting it into 4 really isnt that hard, a lot of people myself included do it. Sure you will get some powder, but just do it in a box or a container or something. Make sure the container is specifically used for this purpose there after, as to not expose anyone else (females) to the drug. Another thing that a lot of people do is to dissolve the pill in small amounts of vodka, and take the required measure each day, as the thoroughly dissolved finasteride will be spread evenly in the solution.

Other than that, I'm not sure as to what effects higher doses have on prostate (shrinking or what not). But I'm sure fewer side effects and less cost is reason enough.

I think finasteride is safe and effective over a VERY wide range of doses. Don't take too seriously these things you see people say on hairloss sites about how 2.5 mg (or 5 mg, for that matter) would increase your risk of side effects. The only real problem, in my opinion, is that it's more expensive to take those larger doses.

Bryan what do you think about the hype "smaller doses less chance for sides". I take .5mg every day but i started to feel testicular pain so i planing to drop .25 every other day maybe with topical spironolactone in the combination. Still i get "morning wood" so i guess my sides aren't so serious

Just get a pill cutter and it makes the process a whole lot easier. You can pick one up at Walgreens for 5 bucks.
