I simply cannot afford propecia and am lookign into gen versions. I saw a drug called finpecia which is jsut propecia made by a different brand. I am skeptical of purchasing this simply because it isnt made by the good old people at 'propecia' and this website inhouse pharmacy sells it to you without a pescription . what sort of pharmacy would do that ... is it legit guys?

If it really concerns you, then go for the real Propecia. You have to choose between saving money and having a peace of mind.

I was on Finpecia, but I am planning to buy the real Propecia after I finish the re st of the Finpecia. I don't think the Finpecia I got from unitedpharmacy is fake, I just want to have a peace of mind. My .02

re:

Finpecia and Fincar are made in India with the same active ingredient as Propecia/Proscar. In India, they can manufacture patented drugs as long as they process them in a different way. Unitedpharmacies and Inhousepharmacy are the top two "reliable" sites mentioned on these forums to obtain these drugs.

If you aren't comfortable with ordering these meds, do what I did... go to http://www.medicalwellnesscenter.com and place an order for Proscar. After answering some questions on the site, they'll charge you $50.00, and will either send you a prescription or call your pharmacy and phone in the prescription. I got the generic finasteride 5mg for $90. This will last me about 5 months. I'm gonna transfer the prescription to another pharmacy where it only costs $75 for the same amount.

But why do these online pharmacies sell you these drugs without a pescription? Surely that is not wise.

Will Finpecia ever be available in the United States? In other words, why isn't there a Propecia 1mg generic available here in the states?

Finpecia/Fincar is made by Cipla which is a renowned and reputable pharmaceutical company, as is Dr. Reddy's.

If you go with an online pharmacy that has a good reputation on these sits (like inhousepharmacy.com and hairpharmacy.com) than you reduce your risk.

I did the generic for the cost issue as well. Get the fincar or the Dr. Reddy's Finast and split the pill into 8ths. This will yield 0.625mg doses. Just to give you an idea, Merck's trials showed that 0.2mg of finasteride ranged anywhere from 80-94% as effective as 1mg (range depending on what factors were measured). So you could surmise that 0.625mg will be even close to 100% and you will really not put a dent into your wallet AT ALL. You could also extend it out to every other day (EOD) if you wish as well.

It's illegal for them to ship it to you in the US and it's illegal for you to receive it. That goes for the Indian stuff and the "real" Proscar or Propecia that's obtained without a prescription. That's just the facts.

As for being unwise, I do think it unwise for someone to order any prescription medication, without a prescription, from dubious sources, off the internet. As someone stated above, the peace of mind of getting the real thing legitimately is surely worth a few more cents per day. My finasteride, obtained at a real pharmacy, costs me less than a fast food value meal each week. That's an amount that anyone can handle.

So why do these pharmacies sell drugs online without a pescription? I saw one pharmacy selling drugs for HIV as well. This looks really shady.

Because the demand is there. Many people want drugs that a doctor would refuse to prescribe or that simply aren't available through normal domestic supply channels. There is also the issue of cost, many online pharmacies can supply Indian generics for a fraction of the price of the legitimate products bought on prescription in the West.

BTW it's actually legal to import prescription meds for personal use if you live in the UK. :)

I was using Merks finasteride, but have just changed to the generic one from India. Although it's a whole lot cheaper, I don't feel 100% confident that I'm getting the genuine thing.

Is there any way of testing it to find out if it really contains the active ingredient?

Incidentally, here in the UK a high street chemist (Boots) has just launched their own programme which supplies Finasteride and I may go with this in the future just for the peace of mind. The cost is only very slightly more than I'm paying for the Indian import.

You should not be concerned about the brand of your drug, but you should be concerned about where you bought it from. Counterfeiters probably prefer to fake branded drugs. Testing can only be performed by trained scientists with hugely expensive pieces of kit. Boots hair retention programme is very expensive, something like £30 per month; I pay £8 a month for my Proscar.

It all comes down to one big question: "Does the marginal cost justify peace of mind?" If it does, then go for Propecia.

I agree Propecia is very expensive, but I still choose to take it cuz that way I got one more thing to worry about.
