Hey ya'll. I've been lurking these forums for a bit, i too am losing hair and is currently at a norwood 1.5 @ age 24.

I have an appointment with Dr. Rafael Freitas that i've been waiting on for a long time, which is nearly due.
I was told that finasteride is a necessity in order to obtain "best results", and i did what i was told to do, to purchase finasteride and use it pre & post surgery.

I bought finasteride with no scepticism, all these stories about finasteride side-effects to me seemed extremely exaggerated, and i went in completely open-minded.

I popped the first pill, and i sh*t you not, 10 minutes later i could feel the side effects, mostly being numb in my genital area/prostate. The worst part of it wasn't being numb, but losing the ability to feel aroused, or having sexual thoughts, i mean, it makes sense. The pill surpresses DHT by 60-70% or so. I took the pills and threw it in the bin, and i sh*t you not, my scepticism towards finasteride and the horror stories exists now, cause reacting to a 1mg pill so strongly shouldn't have too huge an impact on a person, but mother of f***, it did.

It's been 2 days since i took it, side-effects are 90% gone, mostly the limp dick & sexual thoughts.
I cancelled my appointment for a hair transplant, took my money back.

Guys, if you're in your 20's and still "young", try to refrain from using this, i don't have much experience with it only tried one pill, but the side effects don't seem to be worth it. Get on finasteride when you're older and married or some sh*t, i can't ever see myself being on this for one year, i can't imagine the damage it does to you since we're talking about a pill that surpresses a powerful hormone.

Backstory: Normal dude, never been on any sort of drugs of medication before, never had any health issues.

Meanwhile I’m 17 and been taking it since 16.

Sounds like it’s all in ur head. Take those pill back out from the bin.

Besides pills take atleast 30 minutes for them to even start taking effect + finasteride has a coating on it so it takes even longer.

Nice try tho.

Whilst i believe some people do have what could be a neurological allergy to 5ar inhibitors and get bad sides, this straight up sounds like pure placebo. 10 minutes..

You couldn't drop half a gram of MDMA and feel anything within 10 minutes.

Everybody's different, took 10-15 minutes before i started having a chilly/vibrating sensations down there, followed up by numbness. If you're truly not experiencing any sides, congratulations, but sh*t is scary as f***. Just a heads up to people considering it, would've never thought i'd actually submit a post to warn people about it.

Placebo. I thought I was having gyno the first time I took a tablet. Pictures show that my already pre-existing gyno hasnt gotten any worse. It’s because u keep thinking about sides that u think ur experiencing them. It took me 1-2 weeks to get the notion that I was experiencing side effects out of my head. You just need to get over the hump and try to be carefree while taking the drug.

I also felt an immediate reaction to finasteride. A brain fog i've just posted about on another thread. And a strange feeling in my genitals. Very subtle numbness.

So i believe you, and don't think it's in your head. But at the same time, you are taking a med that alters your hormones. It may take a while for your body to adjust.

But again, even on a half mg pill, i felt, wht i'm guessing is, a lesser version of what you experienced. And it did scare me. But your reaction may have been a bit hasty.

No magic pills yet; so finasteride is one of the best and only options we have. And ofc, it all comes down to: how much do you want to keep your hair, how bad your hairloss is, and what you are willing to risk to keep it.

Personally, i am going to ride it out a little longer. Although, i agree w your assessment, and even the scare that it caused you.

The main reason i am willing to stick it out, is bc i also think that the cases of people losing all function and having permanent side effects after only short term use, are super outliers. Like lottery winners, except a bad lottery.

Though, given what i know now, and feel, even after only a few days on finasteride, it really does surprise me how nonchalantly dermatologists prescribe this drug, lol.

And long term effects... That does worry me.
