flaking from minoxidil

It seems to me that the flaking caused by minoxidil is just from it drying up on the scalp. If this is the case then there's really nothing that a shampoo could do to fix this, right?

Today I put minoxidil on a portion of my head that is void of any hairs whatsoever. By the night time I had a very thin layer there of dried gunk that was a residual product of the minoxidil. Usually this stuff washes out in the shower but it certaintly wasn't the most appealing site.

If you just started using the minoxidil then some pealing of the skin is normal, which might be what you are seeing.

So are you saying that this will eventually go away on its own over time?

i've always thought about it is it the scalp reacting badly to minoxidil??..or its just the minoxidil drying out??..i've switched to dr.lee's non ppg minoxidil and absolutely no flaking whatsoever (the minoxidil is not working for me but thats another issue  )...i think its PPG or alcohol base in minoxidil that causes this flaking...if thats the case i dont think nizoral, tgel are going to make difference to minoxidil flaking...and it doesnt stop after continued usage its always there as long as u use it

also one more thing i've found is the amount of minoxidil u apply is also directly related to amount of flaking u see....
the solution
switch to non ppg minoxidil or
dont dump too much minoxidil on ur head :)

This is the same conclusion I came to, if you're only using minoxidil on a fairly small area of scalp you shouldn't need to use the full 1ml per application.

I too suffered from flaking when I used minoxidil and no, it would not disappear on its own. I suggest using T-gel. Flaking will clear up in 2 weeks. However, its still advisable to use T-gel every 3-5 days
