... that's what I think. I'm sick and tired of waiting for these companies to make ANY progress at all. We are always being told that it's just around the corner. Think about it. People spend billions and billions of dollars each freaking year and yet there are only less than a handful of companies working on FM research. WHY? Why don't more companies do research in this??? And seeing people in this forum being excited about intercytex getting $1-2m from UK government is upsetting to say the least. If the govt actually believed in this company sincerely, wouldn't they invest more? A lot more? $1-2m looks like pocket money and I actually feel insulted that nobody takes FM research seriously.

OK. here's what I think. The hair transplant docs are WAAY too happy with the way that things are going on now. Heck they make $4+ per graft, and give all the crap about the difficulty of the FUT or FUE procedure, aesthetics, blah blah to justify the cost. With FM, their HUGE profit will take a hit, since they won't be able to charge insane bills. No stripping, no extraction of grafts, no stitches, etc. "IF" FM becomes available, the cost of getting a hair job will cost less than half of what hair transplant costs today (in the long run). The hair transplant docs are just not happy about this.

I know exactly where you are coming from. But give it this year to see what happens with Intercytex' Phase II trial, we might be surprised.

hair transplant docs might take a hit if HM comes out, but they will also be able to get on the HM boat, for one, and for another, I'm sure they have to turn some potential hair transplant customers away due to lack of donor follicles, which won't be a problem with HM. Also, the coverage that is achieved with hair transplant is still not as complete as either Doctor or patient would like *ideally*, so HM can help out in this area, too.

My final comment is F*CK 'EM! Those hair transplant docs can find other work in other dermitological practices. It's not like there are going to be millions of hair transplant docs out of business. I wonder how many hair transplant doctors there are in the US, anyway.

Here's what I think:

This isn't a cure for baldness, it's a very good fix. As such, men will *always* be going bald, therefore, there will always be work for these doctors/surgeons. Further, because this technique is less invasive (no scarring) and potentially cheaper, more - considerably more - men will opt to have the procedure [consider; a guy who was a solid life-long nw2, probably wouldn't bother with an hair transplant right? But this - what's the harm? I could see lots of men in this position opting for it].

The result is (I believe) this will line these guys' pockets with gold. GOLD i tells ya !!

I reckon we have a lot to look forward to this new field of treatment. No doubt, its tricky science. Any company to come up with a successful technique will make a TON of money via patents (by licensing the procedure to others - for a fee of course). But it is going to take considerable investment to get to that point. Companies are always going to claim that the procedure is "just around the corner" to keep anticipation high among prospective clientele, and to keep investors forking over cash for research and tests.

I wouldn't trust a press statement from these research firms 100%. If they say 2 more years, I'd count on at least 3. But any positive news from them indicates a step forward.

However, at this point, most guys who's hair loss is just starting, or a diffuse thinner who still has reasonable density, can look forward to holding out on finasteride or dutasteride for 5-10 years, before this becomes an option. Especially with minoxidil thrown in too. I'd say 5 years from now is a definite possibility, and I'd say there is a solid chance that it may be a reality in that time. We shall see.

The points that you guys raise are valid and I seriously hope that Intercytex will prove me wrong. I am not holding my breath for Phase II trials though. When it comes to research (or any product) in hair loss, I have learned to keep my expectations low, very low. And this company is no exception. Anyone checked how well they are doing?

http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=ICX. ... z=m&q=l&c=

Their stock price has been going DOWN since they became IPO. Will this company be the answer to my prayers? I don't think so, but again, I hope they will prove me wrong...

My comments about the hair transplant docs might be a little harsh, but I have a strong feeling that they are taking advantage of our desparation and insecurities. Shelling out a brand new car's worth of money for a hair transplant is just too much. And I see the comments of hair transplant patients telling how nice the Doctor was, how they got free meals, how the Doctor took the patient back to the hotel, etc... I once talked to a car salesman and he was telling me how it's easy to fool (no offense) the customers with free stuff like filling the tank with gas. He was very surprised to see the happiness of the customers over $30 bucks of gas, after spending $10-20G on a car. Anyone see a similar sales tactic here?

You're a joke....thats what I think. You say there hasn't been any progress in HM? Three years ago we were creaming our pants because scientists were cloning hair in mice, now they are doing it in humans...that is progress. Also, three years ago we were talking about some wacko scinetist (Gho) in the Netherlands who was playing around with this stuff and now there are five serious corporations working on it....also progress.

Tell me what technology was developed overnight? You can't just throw money at something and think that is the solution. Look at cancer and HIV we throw billions at that and have no cure. Scientists are on the right track and they are making amazing progress.

With all that said it, HM is likely at least 5-10 years away, but I'd be damn happy just to know it will be available in our lifetimes.

That 50 point drop in Intercytex's stock value is quite a sobering fact, though.

Why is it sobering? That drop in price is nothing for a IPO of a company that is purely speculative. Hugely successful companies experience much shaper falls than Intercytex.

Also, why would Intercytex already be working on mechanisms to commercialize the product with aid from the U.K. gov. if this was all a chimera.

It is a jokefellas as far as I know the only man on earth that proclaims to have a full head of cloned hair is Dr. William magdalin,(A complete QUACK) and he has no scars to prove it. Even if they were able to shoot an injection ito your head (Intecytex) how do you know what direction they would grow?
Are we vegetabbles? Mabey we sit under a sun lamp for six months hoping they grow in an upward at least fashion. Its a hoax brothers.
There is nothing more impressive than a confident BALD MAN.
You are what you are don't let the opertunist make a vfool of you or take you from your family.

Who cares about your quacks? I'm sure Intercytex is taking the directional thing into consideration and if they don't, the intelligent members of this board will not be getting it done until they do so. Anyways, keep hunting for the charlatans, but we'll keep looking for the legit options for dealing with hairloss.

Thanks for the encouragement to be confident, I already am quite so, but being confident has nothing doesn't mean settling for circumstances without trying to make improvements.

Finally, there actually is something more impressive than a confident bald man and that is a confident man with hair. If this wasn't the truth, this board wouldn't exist. So anyways, how about you join the baldrus organization and rub bald heads with those guys and we'll keep looking for solutions.

So, are you a hypocrite, or did you get butchered by one of your quacks?

I'm guessing the later as people often go to a crappy docs and then spill their bitterness onto these boards assuming that all docs are bad. The problem is that you can find quacks in any type of surgery; for example people die from going to bad doctors for brain surgery. Let me guess though, there is nothing as impressive as a confident man with a brain tumor?

It's destructive for guys to hang all their hopes on any of these future possibilities. Perhaps there will be a treatment such as this someday...but that someday is a long ways off and putting your life on hold while chasing something that may or may not materialize will prove a waste regardless of result.

Who said anything about putting their lives on hold?

Looking forward to a new treatment is simply that - looking forward. In the meantime, there is plenty of fun to be had. Not everyone in the world is letting their hairloss affect them too seriously. Granted, by being on this forum, it must bother us all enough to have sought information, and do something about it. But that is a healthy attitude.

I feel bad for anyone who would put their lives on "hold" for this.

People can be proactive about their circumstances without putting their lives on hold. Its not like everyone who is looking forward to HM is suspended in space while watching the world with a telescope.

optimist - aptly named. i agree with you whole heartedly. plus the fact of the matter is that the market is too large (and wholely unsatisfied with currently available treatment options) for these researchers not to receive the financial backing they need to perfect HM.
