Thanks pondle, I wonder about intially starting out with the 1mg and then dropping down to the 0.2 after the six months as kind of a maintenance dose?

I thought this was interesting from the FDA reply:

FDA does not require that a dose-ranging study demonstrate statistical significance between doses; showing a positive slope in the doseresponse curve, as did the Propecia study, is sufficient.

I don't really like the sound of that. Maybe we shouldn't rely on the FDA too much.

I tend to doubt that there's any such thing as a "maintenance dose" in this context.

Well, let's say you took 1mg and saw full results in 6 months, but theoretically would've seen the same results on .5mg in 9 months, couldn't you drop from 1 to .5 with no consequences?

Trog, I agree with you and that was my point. I totally think that those that are going to be what are classified as good responders will do so at at the 0.25-1.0mg dose. So if you are a good responder at say 1mg, why not drop down to 0.5mg after six months or 0.5 to 0.25?

yeah thats why im gonna use .25mg if I decide to use propecia. Mainly for cost since theres no stupid generic yet and I guess its illegal to prescribe proscar for off label use.

I wonder if propecia helps with
1) the blasted itch
2) preventing a mature hairline

these 2 things seem to be pretty up in the air from what i see with some people saying 1 thing and other people saying the opposite.
