I was wondering if the shedding you are experiencing is making your hairloss more noticible or is it just that you are noticing that you are losing a little more hair than normal? I mean, if you are losing a little more hair here and there, but overall it is thickening up, it would be harder to notice overall. Also, how long did the shedding generally last once you started Propecia? I want to get as many responses so that I can see patterns. Thanks and please respond.

I am on my 15 month of proscar. Until about a month ago I shed quite a bit especially in november (scary shed). By now it over with, no excessive hair sheds and maintaining alright in the crown. Temples could use some improvement tho :dunno:

Into my 9th month of propecia and minoxidil (12.5% & azelaic acid which apparently inhibits DHT)

Can't say I've been impressed with the results :(

June & July last year I maintained and the hairline felt stronger, so I thought great, this is working!
August and September the hair felt a bit thinner but hairline was still intact.
October saw a shed which I didn't like but was half expecting. However around early November my hair seemed to feel stronger so I was quite pleased.

However, over the last month I have shed like a b**ch! I seem to have lost terminal hairs behind my hairline - hairs that didn't seem ready to fall out. Now I'm really not sure whether to cut my losses and try something less aggressive (serenoa + less potent minoxidil) or carry on and hope my hair bounces back. I'm certainly running low on patience.

Another thing of note is that I use the hairmax laser comb and when first using (May/June 2007) this I felt my hair strengthen up. On past experiences I have benefited more from other products than propecia.

Any advice on my dilemma welcome...

First of all, do you have a receeding hairline or "the spot" on the top/crown of your head?

I'm not doctor, but maybe you should try cutting the dosage down. It seems like you are going back and forth between thick hair (good results) to thin (poor results). You might also want to ask your doctor or derm.

Also, would you, or anyone reading, say that your hairloss has gotten worse since taking Propecia?

Cheers bigblackattack

I only have receding hairline and temples, no thinning on top yet.

I have been considering cutting the dosage down to maybe 0.25mg daily, as well as using a less aggressive minoxidil (at the moment I use 12.5%)

What is interesting is that between May & July last year, I had just started the treatments and the hair at stages appeared thicker. This was with using the hairmax laser comb as well.

My suspicion is that the medications may be too potent and I am considering reducing the dosage of propecia and getting a less concentrated minoxidil.

I would say my hair has definitely got worse since beginning the treatment.
