August 2013 to April 2015
finasteride and 5% minoxidil. Moderate to significant hair thickening, a little hairline regrowth.
April 2015 to June 2016
Same but 15% minoxidil. No change of note.
Been back on 5% minoxidil since July. Quit minoxidil for 16 days in August for a hair transplant. As of September 15th I've been back in 5% minoxidil for a month post hair transplant and have noticed no change in my hair density, coverage or shedding.
I've been on avodart for 4 months now too, 3x per week, no noticeable change.
Maybe there have been changed and I haven't noticed, but for all this experimentation, I can't say I've noticed any change, positive or negative.

It's odd, because minoxidil is supposed to be dose dependent...

did they ever even test 10 or 15%. Perhaps that's why they didn't involve it in the studies? it makes no difference. Used 15% for a while, it just felt like it was burning my scalp and i was losing more hair.

I believe they did... I read that it's difficult to dissolve more than 5% in PG/Ethanol so that even if there is more minoxidil in the bottle, it doesn't stay in solution or it doesn't penetrate the scalp properly because it needs to be in PG to penetrate down to the follicle. this may be why they're is no difference.
Alternatively we may just not be minoxidil responders!

a properly compounded higher strength minoxidil is in a cream, not a liquid form. minoxidil can only dissolve up to 8% and then it will crystallize out of solution. i have seen this myself. i think any man using minoxidil should start at the 5%, never the 2.

i also believe that you can be a minoxidil responder, and then be a non responder. why the hair stops responding to it, i wish i knew. and i know through experience that bumping up the percent of min will not make you a responder again.

if anyone who was a responder, and then became a non responder, and then became a responder again please feel free to chime in.

Ah yes it was 8%, so that may be enough for some improvement, but you're not really getting double or triple strength with 10 or 15% more like 1.5 with both. Regardless, knowing I can drop it and having done so without consequence as of 2 and a half months is a relief, because that stuff is expensive!

I thought a member here [Kgatton] used 30% minoxidil though, if he's sees this, I hope he'll explain!

The Progesterone combined with the thirty percent Minoxidil gave me good results. It jump started
hair growth for my scalp.

When I cut the Minoxidil in half, in three months I started losing ground again. Most of it was on top.

January 2016 restarted thirty percent. From February to June 2016 I have been seeing hair regrowth.

However, since June 2016 my hair has stabilized. No gains, but no losses either. My hairline is growing back in but a very, very slow pace.

My body doesn't produce as much androgens as someone in their thirties or twenties. So for my own scalp,
it is dose dependent. (Because there's less androgen assault on my hair).
But how did you get 30% minoxidil to stay in solution if the max is about 8% in pg/ethanol?

It's a thick cream.

It's actually supposed to be washed out of the hair in the morning.

It stays in the hair, even at night. The one side effect, which is interesting, is my hair on top grows around one inch every month. It grows faster than my 'DHT resistant' hair. Even my neck hair!

If someone wants to grow their hair long/longer, this is the product to use.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up! What Progesterone cream do you mix minoxidil into? Any instructions?
