Hi, my story:

I am 24 years old and begin to lose hair at 21 I think, Mainly lost hair on temples and front , began using propecia and it didn't work so I had to had hair transplant at age 23 to get more hair on temples and front, which worked great. Doctor says I am norwood 1 though I could be norwood 2.

So I switched to Dutasteride and I have been on it for 1 year, it has worked better than propecia until about 5 months ago thatn I noticed I started to lose a lot of hair in the middle of my scalp. Thanks God I have curly hair and I can perfectly cover it, to the point that nobody notices I am balding.

But you know how it is: I have to put special attention when styling my hair, and the constant anguish.

So, since recently I have seen myself losing more hair, I am planning to switch from .5 mg to 1 mg avodart.

Under .5mg I have seen better results than under propecia until recently, the only side effect I have seen is extrely dry lips, which is now not that severe, but this improvement on my lips mysteriously coincides with the recent hair lost in the last 5 months.

I would go 2.5 mg if I had the money, but you know that would be a lot of $$$.

I would have to spend a bit more with 1mg but is it worth to try this upgrade?

No, taking 2 pills will not significantly inhibit much more dht...Its not worth it. Your going to spend DOUBLE the money for a very very minimal gain (if any).

yea i think u should take both propecia and dutasteride and increase it to .75 mg dutasteride.

as they say as long as it doesnt kill it it is good for u.

im tellign u ur body is not that sensitive to dutasteride and finasteride , so take a higher dose of both at same time.

would you rather have 2x duta pills or 1 finas 1 duta pill?.
By the way, what do you mean by .75 duta?, it comes in .5mg pills.

There's no advantage in taking finasteride and dutasteride at the same time. If you're taking dutasteride it essentially makes finasteride redundant. The only reason to take both simultaneously is if you think one is fake.

or if you are unsure which you will respond better too..

Its tough to swallow...but i dunno Ive read it on hairlosshelp many times...peter mac seems to emphasize it a lot.

I vaguely recall a study which Peter Mac and others have posted occasionally which attempts to determine the degree of success to be expected from inhibiting 5a-reductase (something other than that small IGF-1 study), but if I remember correctly, it didn't have anything to do with a direct comparison between the effectiveness of finasteride and the effectiveness of dutasteride.

I just can't imagine a scenario in which Propecia would be more effective than Avodart, unless there were some really really really weird biochemical individuality which prevented the dutasteride from suppressing DHT as much as the finasteride.

ok bryan..that clears the air a little.

Lastly, say someone has been on finasteride for a year or so...what is the best way to make the transition to dutasteride?...quit finasteride cold turkey and just start dutasteride...or should there be an "overlap" period for a month or so while the dutasteride builds up in one's blood stream.

I would just use my very last finasteride tablet one day, then start using the dutasteride the next day. There will be enough dutasteride in your bloodstream after just a couple of days or so to be at finasteride levels of inhibition.

I would up it to 1mg per day if you are losing ground with 0.5mg.

It should help in my opinion.

Just save up so you can take 2.5mg per day. until then take 1mg and see how you go. You will never know unless you try it, as no one here can tell you conclusively whether or nor it will work better.

good luck
