fue vs fut

hi guys, im thinking about a hair transplant with dr rahal, but im not sure whether to do fue or fut. basically, i think i am Norwood 5 or early Norwood 6. so a lot of grafts are recommended. he recommended 4000 grafts. so i know that fut is usually recommended when you have lots of grafts. on the other hand, my friends tell me i look decent with a buzz cut (i usually buzz it down to a #1 or even a .5 sometimes). so im thinking i may want to do fue so that i can keep buzzing my hair down the road. also its less painful apparently which is good. but i hear that the yield would be better for strip. any suggestions? i know i dont have pictures yet but will try to post them soon. thanks guys!

If I were you I would go with FUT because of the amount of grafts you need.

I believe FUE is better for smaller sessions.

Do any of the FUE hair transplant surgeons actually admitts lower survival yield over Strip? If so, is that admission to not being careful with extraction of donor? One would think a 0.9 mm should easily safely remove all that is necessary without damage?

Also, if money is not a factor, Why not just do a few small, almost undetectible FUE proceedures and have minimal downtime?

thanks for the responses guys!

manutd, well if i go with fue, the recommendation is to do it in two separate sessions. so i would do 2000 at a time. just wondering, why is it a must for u to keep ur hair short on the sides?

el nino ive also heard that fue is better for shorter procedures, but why is this? is it just because it takes longer?

i guess my other concern is i know that dr rahal is very respected for his fut operations, but since fue is relatively new, im not 100% sure if the results will be as good from him. i cant seem to find many cases online of fue patients with dr rahal.

the other thing is, does anyone know how quicker the recovery is for fue vs fut? i would be going back to work 3 weeks after the surgery, and wouldnt want people at work to know right away that i had a transplant. i know i could wear a hat but i dont konw if i would be able to do that. so for those reasons, if fue is a quicker recovery, maybe it will be better.

thanks!

I'm sure that amoung the top docs the survival rate for grafts between FUE and FUT is closing every year, as tools and technique get better.

thanks for the advice so far guys! any other comments or advice, im still totally undecided between fue and fut. here are the pros and cons i have:

fut pros:
better graft yield
cheaper
only would need to do one session
dr rahal more experienced doing fut

fue pros:
not as noticeable a scar, so i can buzz my hair which i like doing
less painful
healing time quicker, so less issues with returning to work and having people notice (im planning on taking 3 weeks off though, but i guess if the healing time is quicker maybe i could even take a vacation after 10-14 days?)

the other thing is i might be getting married next december and it would be nice to have more hair for the wedding, so if i do fue, i dont know how long i would have to wait for my second session. they do say it takes a year for the hair to grow

thanks!
