I've been trying to find some information on these boards and on the web, but to no avail, on the actual rates of people that get this post-finasteride syndrome, wether it be 1 in 10, 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000 or even higher.

Ive found that through reading the propecia help site many people have posted in the story section,

which is pretty much reporting that they are having side effects with the drug, then reporting that they have stopped when they stop the drug, which is pretty much what is stated on the box,

so i am going to go on finasteride in the next few weeks, figured ide log off these forums or the web completely for the duration, just wanted to know if anyone had any opinions on this.

Nobody really knows.

Just keep in mind that messageboards represent a very small percentage of people worldwide (likely tens of millions) taking finasteride. Also, messageboards tend to be biased, negative, and often attract people looking to complain or express their distaste for the medication. It's not a great sample for unbiased statistical information.

Also, keep in mind there have been thousands of patients involved in probably over a billion patient hours of placebo controlled medical trials that have never seen anyone exhibiting PFS symptoms. It's virtually unheard of in the medical community, and all but a few 'fringe' medical professionals acknowledge it even exists.

All that being said, I think it does exist, but is extremely rare. I would personally put the figure at between 1/1000 and 1/5000. These would be 100% physical cases that do not have a psychological component involved (which I believe makes up the majority of people self-diagnosing with PFS).

Of course, this is all my own opinion and personal interpretation, and I could easily be way off in one way or another. However, I couldn't possibly imagine it being likely to occur in more than 1 in 1000 people, but I could always be wrong.

As far as PFS is concerned if you want the odds then 'it's even higher' is your answer.

Nobody can give you the exact odds because you'd need such a large sample size and there are so many factors that could also play a role, for example i had a spell whilst on finasteride eating lots of soy products, the side effect was ahem droopy to say the least, but it's a bit harsh to blame just finasteride.
