Hello guys!

What were the chances that I'd go bald by 16 if no one in my family is even close to having a bald head?

Yes it can. if your grandparents and uncles on both maternal and paternal sides of your family all have perfect hair then it's pretty unlikely. You probably have a bald gradfather or great grand father.

I think baldness is such a common genetic trait that anyone has the potential of getting of it granted that the chance varies from person to person.

Well if you do have male pattern baldness then you might just be extremely unlucky.

Balding genes can be really unpredictable sometimes. I've read stories on here before where some men can become a Norwood 7 in the twenty's with extremely minimal balding genes from both sides of the family, and some keep their Norwood 1 hair into very old age with balding genes rampant on both sides of the family. We still don't have the technology today to determine 100% if balding will happen to the individual or not before the genetic condition even starts.

Guess you just lost the genetic lottery then cocojambo. On the bright side, it's still way too early to know your pattern or severity for sure, could stay like this for 10 years... Or not... And you can take early preventative action, as well as look forward to potentially effective new treatments in the next 10 years. Who know, maybe one of them won't be bull****.

I'm not saying that this is the case but infidelity does happen and could have occurred with a great grandmother, how would you know?

It doesn't have to be infidelity either. My uncle Glynn while part of my family is not genetically related as he was deposited on my grand mother's door step by a young single catholic girl. These people who follow genealogies are wasting their time. The further back you go the greater the chance that something like this happened and it messes it up.

Thanks a lot GoldenMane and Agustin Araujo, you guys almost always answered my questions and I truly appreciate that!(in fact I remember GoldenMane being one of the first to respond to my first thread) In fact I just found some pictures from when I was younger and it looks like my hair was never my strong point,so to say,I just hope it doesn't get worse.

Violetfluff,I guess there is a chance that it might have happened(there always is I guess) but I highly doubt it,the thing is...I'm blonde...and 95% of my family is brunette,so I guess my mom would have to be the culprit and I'm 100% that's not the case :))

perfect example is my grandfather was 1 out of 5 brothers, who's father had a full head too. Luckily he was the only one who held onto his hair, everyone else went bald by 40, he was the oldest of his brothers and the only one alive today. Lucky for me, my grandma went slick bald at 30-40 years old, my parents say its because she worked around alot of chemicals growing up, but i believe she had a genetic predisposition to it and that is where it got passed onto my father. Anyways ya, my grandpa full head at 91, my father nw7 by 28.

I honestly feel bad for people my age who are balding when their fathers have full heads, that must make the whole experience suck all that much more.
