Daily reminder, seeing as this f*****g forum is part of PSL now. That cancerous sh*t is spreading everywhere.

1983, 19-20 years old.

Cage's career survived thanks to wigs and concealers. Absolutely heartbreaking. At least he's rich as f***, and one of the few whose careers survived balding.

Well, guess what? I have it worse. If treatment doesn't work, I'm 1993 Cage in 3 years at best (21 now). Not going to kill myself, but I will consider myself dead already. No future for a man looking like this in the late 2010's, early 2020's. I will live to pay for the best transplant.

How many promising careers ruined. All because hair. At least Heath Ledger did not have to live long enough to see his career in pieces (or hair pieces) because of hair loss.

Joking aside, Cage is not a very good actor, and made very stupid choices over the years anyway.

IMO Nick Cage is an exceptional actor. He does INTENSITY as good as anyone. I think hair loss killed his career.

He was great in Matchstick Men. Have you seen that, nameless?

Nope. I do intend to though. Can you tell me what it's about?
Sorry nameless for slow reply.
Anyway, Matchstick Men is a movie about two con artist played by Nicholas Cage and Sam Rockwell.
Nicholas Cage's character has severe OCD.
He also has an estranged daughter who shows up in the film about a third of the way in and eventually takes part in the scams perpetrated by her father and his partner in crime.

It all makes for an interesting film, set in sunny LA. Watch for a surprising (to some) twist in the plot at the end of the film.

I'm going to look for it. Thanks for the heads-up.

Nicolas Cage is one of the few actors that ONLY he could have played the roles he's played, in the way he's played them. Another example would be Jack Nicholson, to indicate how rarely an actor like this comes along.

I believe it was Roger Ebert who said of Nic Cage "with him he is all about the intensity of the scene, it's about his interaction with the emotions of the other person and scenario, and you never get a sense he's winking at the camera" and whether or not I really agree with this, considering the over-the-top character performances he puts out there, for a famous critic to say that of him is quite an achievement in itself.

And anyway, how has nobody mentioned Leaving Las Vegas? Of course Oscars can be meaningless but when a screwball somewhat anti-establishment non-conforming actor like Cage wins one, he's done something special. I don't think many people even know he's won an Oscar, you never hear him announced as "Academy Award Winner Nicolas Cage".

I'm yet to watch Leaving Las Vegas.
I've only heard good things about it.

If we had a "film club" on HairLossTalk.com Impact Section, taking into consideration our existential crises that most people don't suffer, Leaving Las Vegas has to be up there as a must-watch film.

There's a really good Community episode when Abed takes a class to work out whether Nic Cage is good or bad and basically loses his mind because he can't work him out. I'm a fan personally. Con-Air is so bad it's good - much like a lot of Nicolas Cage's work.
