The healthcare/pharmaceutical industry in a nutshell. Why cure something if you can just maintain it, a constant stream of revenue as opposed to a one-time purchase.

I can understand their anxiety about a permanent cure.

Above logic fails in many communicable diseases.
For e.g: Tuberculosis.

Indian spends 1 lakh rupees per annum on a single person.
Budget of TB treatment in India is above of 400 Billion USD for a period of just 10 years.

TB on maintainence would be like suicide.

Medical diseases are not easy to solve.

Just to say that pharma companies are not finding cure just for prolonging treatment is baseless.
and pure timepass made by Internet experts.

Take an example of Hairloss..
Science don't even know how minoxidil causes hair growth..
Forget about finding baldness cure.

For hypothetical scenarios..take this with bag of salt. :)

Why there is very little possibility to hide the cure?

Today, medical field is diverse...with most of the work under wraps.
Many scientists are working independently to find the cure on almost all diseases.
The fame after finding the cure is so huge..
there is no chance a scientist or team will leave that for money.

Status is more Important than Money...when will people understand this.

Take a conspiracy with respect to Cancer.

If cancer has a cure..the team working for it would possibly been offered 10s of billion dollars..

Such vast amount of money cannot be hidden from the financial system.

Suppose few scientist get that 10s of billion dollars,it is very easy for the company to end the game of such scientists on grounds of breaking tax laws, corruption.

From a business perspective I don't doubt that some diseases are probably more profitable to treat than cure.

However, living in a country with socialised medicine I find the concept of witholding cures pretty ridiculous and I'd like to think I'm not that cynical.

The shareholders and bigwigs of these big pharmaceutical companies and their families are dying left right and centre from cancer and other 'curable' diseases
