I took finasteride for 10 months to see if I could stop my hair loss. Over those ten months my hair loss stopped for the first three months and then began again and never stopped.
Over the course of these 10 months I gained weight - around 20lbs - but I also lost a bit of muscle in my chest area. My diet hadn't changed that much and my work outs continued so I began to think it was the propecia. I stuck with it a few months longer but after realising that my hair was not coming back and my body was getting worse I decided to quit.
That was a few months back now and I've lost those 20lbs (I worked on my diet as well). The muscle definition returned and I also began to feel sharper mentally.
Anyway, I just thought I'd put this down as I know a lot of people don't think the sides will end. For me they did, my health improved as well as my cognitive abilities.
As for the hair, long term I'll have to get hair transplants over the next ten years, or hope there is another medical cure.
