I started to notice my frontal area and crown thinning back in 2009. It was still very minor at the time so I didn't pay much attention to it until my desired hair style was becoming more and more difficult to maintain and then that's when I basically came to a conclusion that I have to do something about it.
Some of you will look my pictures and think that my case of hair loss is pretty much nothing, and that I should be glad that I even have this much hair to begin with prior to my hair loss treatment regimen. But personally for me, it didn't change the fact that it degraded my self esteem a lot to the point where I would constantly have my head down in the elevator or on the bus because I would get insecure about the people behind me staring at my head, avoiding social events with friends, etc because of it. It was pretty much getting to me on a psychological level.
Hair loss sucks no matter how bad the condition is!
I have to admit that I was quite skeptical about treating hair loss in general even with something like Rogaine but I was just completely blown away at everyone's success stories. I basically felt like I had nothing to lose at this point (besides my hair ) so I bit the bullet and took action.
I started by PMing some members in regards to their regimen and I basically decided to give the Big Three regimen (Finasteride, Minoxidil 5%, Nizoral shampoo) a try since it seemed to be the regimen that worked out very well for most of the members.
These are the pictures I posted prior to the regimen back in 2010 in the "Tell Your Story" section:
And recent pictures taken on 2/20/13:
The recent pictures were taken on towel dried hair after I applied my minoxidil so it generally would look a little thicker than what is up here, but you can clearly see the improvement on my hairline and crown. I honestly probably would of gotten better results if I haven't slacked on my regimen though. I only applied minoxidil once a day for 3 or 4 times a week and 0.5~1.25 finasteride every other day for the past few months and ditched Nizoral completely. But even then, I feel like i've been able to maintain what I have going on for me now just fine. I just don't really see much gain.
I started applying minoxidil twice a day again for the past week and plan on continuing the twice a day application for a while to see if I can get any more results. Although some may disagree, I feel like taking finasteride EOD at this point is okay. Im considering getting Nizoral again as well.
I also smoke marijuana almost on a daily basis and for some reason it causes my skin to produce a lot more sebum than if I didn't smoke so that might be one of the factors that causes hair loss for me as well. But im sure its just bull crap for the most part.
Im also looking into reducing the amount of stress I feel on a daily basis. I somehow doubt that my case of hair loss is stress induced but I know that its bad for your body in general and not just your hair. So its definitely something worth working on.
But as of now, I can say that I am quite satisfied with how things are going for me. I can style my hair however I want. I don't have to cancel plans with friends because of insecurities. I feel like I got some good weight off my shoulders from a little effort.
To anyone that's on the fence about this whole process, its definitely a commitment and it may not even work out for some of you but it never hurts to try!
Best Wishes
