I've been on these forums for years just reading, have only made an account now. My hairloss began (or i first noticed receeding hairline) 8 years ago when i was 18/19, it is not too bad and i can disguise it. I have a receeding hairline and have just started to notice a thinning spot developing on the crown.

This week, after contemplating for years i finally decided enough is enough and i want to do something before i leave it any longer. I booked an appointment with my GP ( i live in the uk) and was suprisingly quite nervous. For me this would be the first time i would discuss and therefore admit i have hairloss with anyone, so i was unsure of his reaction. My Gp has a full head of hair by the way and is in his 50's.

He basically told me that there is nothing i can do for baldness, regardless of what i read over the net. I told him i was eager to get on finesteride, becuase it is proven to at least slow down the process, and that would be good enough for me. He said that finesteride does more harm than good, and messing with your hormones is unwise. I said i have read a lot of positive results from people taking it in conjuction with minoxidil, he just responded with, "i have been a doctor for over 30 years and many people such as yourself come in to see me, they all waste their money on countless cures...really there is nothing you can do, believe me." By this time i was really pissed off, he told me if i wanted to take it, i would do so by my own risk, he suggested that i should see a hormone specialist if i were to take it.

I really am not sure what to do, if i should pay to see a private consultant hairloss specialist for peace of mind, or to just order proscar from the net.
I'm really not sure if my GP knows what he is talking about or is just plain ignorant. Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm currently only using Nizoral, and i can say it has really helped me.

Hi flipper 2000. I wrote something along similar lines when asking about my son. The GP was about 32, shaven head as he was quite bald. He said if there were something he would know. The Governement have told the NHS that they can't supply finasteride. on an NHS cheap prescription. It's got to be private.

I went to two doctors. The first doctor told me something similar, he pretty much told me I was screwed.

I didn't really care because I had done my research on finasteride so I went to another doctor who totally understood the situation and actually recommended to try finasteride.

Understand this: I wouldn't be surprised if a "full head of hair" doctor would give out that advice because not suffering from hairloss probably indicates he hasn't read that many studies about finasteride (since he doesn't even care)...

Do your own research and make a decision and go see another doctor. I did.

agreed.

order 30 fincar from http://www.inhousepharmacy.com today, free shipping, and cut it in fourths or take the whole pill if you want. It will arrive in a week, protecting your hair while you find another GP. Overweight men and men with certain health problems or who drink a lot should check their liver. It is still possible to have liver problems even if you are not in that group, but I'm not going to get a test for a while since there is no point to spend $$$ on a test for an unlikely problem when I don't even see docs for other stuff. My health insurance is my healthy diet and exercise, and I see docs for real problems and maybe cholesterol or blood vessel scans.

Has anyone here had there testicles grabbed by a doctor in the last 5 hears? Well testicular cancer is probably much more likely than a liver problem is you take care of yourself. So unless you have insurance, I would not bother.

FYI LIver disease is not exclusive to just overweight men that drink alot.
Unlikely?? I hope for your sake you dont have problems but all the crap you put in ur body you should have your AST and ALT enzymes checked once a yr. See, the liver cant repair itself. So if you damage it you are fighting an uphill battle. As for a healthy diet, of course I support it but sometimes there are genetic markers that are silent and should be checked. CRT proteins, Homocysteine levels etc.
I had my grpes checked for testicle cancer and it gave me piece of mind. Show me the evidence that testicle cancer is much more prevalent than liver disease. I'm curious. I do think taking propecia, avodart and oral spironolactone deserves a liver check once a yr.
