Hi... I'm only 25 years old and a female. Here is my story.. in High School my hair was soooooooo thick and nice... when I wrapped my hands around it I couldn't even get my thumb to touch the tips of my fingers... everyone always said I had such thick hair. I always kept my hair at a really long length at least down to my waist.

When I turned 19... I chopped my hair really short... I was sooo unhappy with the results that I decided to get a wig with longgg hair to make my hair look LONG again.. however, I did NOT use the wig --- I cut the long hairs of the wig and braided it to strips of hair on my bottom scalp (rubberbanding it together with think black rubber bands (my hair is black). I kept it on for a good 2 months, only combing the bottom so I don't mess up the top where I put it together., after that I decided my hair was at a good length enough for me to remove the fake hairs I attached my hair. But when I did so, there was sooo much thick clumps, I had my sister help try to untangle all the fake hair from my real hair, but it was useless, so we took a brush and brushed and pulled and brushed as hard as we could and just kept brushing to untangle the hair, and LOTS of my REAL hair got pulled out. When all was done and finished, I noticed my hair was much thinner, but then my sister said it will re-grow,

it hadn't regrown since... that was when I was 19, I'm 25 now... and now my hair keeps getting thinner and thinner and thinner each year and when I wrap my hands around my hair, my index finger can reach 2 inches down my thumb... that is so bad compared to when I had thick and luscious hair!. Even my best friend was like 'You use to have really really thick hair, what happened????'

What can I do? I have yet to know

Sorry to hear this. Go and see a doctor...no one here is qualified to say anything more than that.

hi grace, women can experience female pattern baldness, which is an overall thinning of the hair in no particular pattern on the scalp, otherwise other ways of damaging hair might include things like burning it (how did you attach the wig hairs?), or thyroid conditions, hormonal imbalances - have you been pregnant? do you take the pill? these can change hormonal balances which effect hair growth. Also some females suffer from trichotillomania (hairpulling) - if you pull hairs out from the scalp, sometimes you can damage the regrowth pattern and in rare cases, the hair does not grow back. if you pulled lots of hairs out removing the extentions, this is the same as pulling them out by hand.

Scalp hair doesnt work like eyebrow hair, where it annoyingly automatically grows back after a week or so, its more volatile and if the pattern is disrupted, it can take years, and i mean sometimes as many as 4 or 5 years, to regain normal pattern

Hi,

Suggest you go to a qualified Trichologist as I did. Many are like mine are even more familiar with female hair problems. They will take strand of hair and analyse them and check your diet etc. Go to your doctor as suggested here and get a blood test done and check for iron level particularly as that often affects women..take a multivitamen with iron.

Hope that helps.
