Got a prescribed 2% Ketoconazole shampoo by a dermatologist. I've been using it 3x a week for about a month and now I'm wondering how to go about using this stuff from here on out. Is it safe to use this long term as in for the rest of my life? For controlling dandruff its recommended I use it only as needed once I get the dandruff under control but I can't find any guidance on how to use it for the purpose of controlling hair loss.

If the ketoconazole was studied as a 2% lotion used everyday so using a shampoo 1-3/week should not be bad, only maybe if its dry your skin too much will might happend but probably only in the beginning and with time your hair will adapt to it and become less dry again. Keep in mind to keep ketoconazole shampoo on your scalp for at least 5 minut and then wash it off for the maximum benefits. If you are using any other topical on your scalp you can use ketoconazole shampoo before so your scalp is "cleaner"/has less oil/sebum so your next topical will absorb better.

How many years exactly? Because pretty much all doctor's say not to regularly use Keto shampoo long term as it can damage the hair

I don't see where they mention in the article that it can hurt hair. I see hair loss as a side effect but this is purportedly due to the shedding that often accompanies improvement. It can have slight hormonal effects but rarely via topical use to my knowledge. It might cause contact dermatitis as might topical minoxidil, which isn't pleasant and perhaps that might damage hair but I don't think that we currently have the data to link dermatitis to androgenic alopecia as a causative effect. They certainly are highly correlated in many individuals as they have been for me. Beard removal seemed to improve my dermatitis once and for all and I rarely seen even a tiny bit around my nose.

Wow that's impressive. Did you have an aggressive hair loss?
I believe moderate, but I have maintained for years and use ketaconazole shampoo rotted with other ketaconazole based shampoo.

And how many times a week do you wash with keto?
I wash with 1% everyday and 2% every other day, the 1% ketaconazole I rotate with Regenepure DR/Revita/Lipogaine BIG3.
