Guys, I'm a month in to finasteride and it appears that.... I'm fine?

What the heck is this sorcery! I thought this demonized drug was gonna make my dick fall off.

The crazy thing is RU gives me massive sexual side effects immediately. Even on low doses. (Yes, I went for Chinese chemicals before proven treatment). So I really did not have much hope for finasteride. I was certain that if an externally applied anti-androgen gave me problems then an internal one would completely f*** me. But once again I know less than Jon Snow.

I cannot tell you what a f*****g relief this is. Obviously it's too early to tell whether it's gonna save my hair, but at least it has given me a beacon of hope against this eternal battle.

Happy to hear mang, yeah the sides are really blown out of proportion. I think a lot of guys fall for the nocebo effect.

I never understood how guys could rub some unknown chemicals on their head from China but not take a FDA approved drug?

I'm seriously willing to bet 70-80% of the reported sides are at least partly psychological.

This.

But I also don't think it's completely fair to dismiss the idea that finasteride does f*** with certain people. There are guys who've been back and forth on propecia along with other treatments, and finasteride gave them the same sides each time, people here dismissed it as bullshit without really thinking.

But these people are rare, I'd say a small percent of people have sides, and then a small percent of those who do have them, its for purely biological reasons.

Zircon mentioning depression being similar, well at what stage does a person finally hop on finasteride? It's hardly when you're a sprightly young buck with a dense NW1.

It happens when you're depressed and desperate for an option, so you jump on finasteride at that time, and what a coincidence! Your libido is low and you have brain fog.

Actually for me when jumping on finasteride, although desperate I was somewhat excited and optimistic for this drug, I doubt a lot of people go into it with this attitude.

I'm not saying this positive attitude contributed to success in terms of regrowth and actually a higher libido (temporarily), but it definitely didn't make me confuse my desperation and depression with finasteride sides.

Well I was one of those guys haha. But I don't know, when I first started researching this stuff I was 19 I think. Dummy age some would say.

At that time my take from everything I had read here and few other places was that RU would be very unlikely to give you sides, though it potentially wouldn't be as effective as finasteride. Whereas there was so much stuff about finasteride sides. So seemed like a smart thing to do (plus it was somehow easier get my hands on RU back then). In hindsight it was obviously a very unwise decision.

Good on you man.

I'm seriously willing to bet 70-80% of the reported sides are at least partly psychological. I had a bout of depression after a break-up and the symptoms were eerily similar to what the propeciahelp guys report. After the depression went away so did the symptoms and my finasteride use was constant throughout.

Well those sexually sides many talk of from finasteride I definitely got from RU. But as I've come to learn RU is quite a different drug and the finasteride studies show very low percentage getting hit with those effects so you are probably correct.

One negative aspect has finasteride has brought though as my loads a very watery and low in volume. I hope that it will return to normal but otherwise it will be a low price to pay for hair if you ask me. On the other hand I would actually say my erections are stronger now.

Everyone should really give finasteride a try at least.

Yeah most people don't react too badly to finasteride, but it is an anti-androgen by definition and androgens are related to your sexual functioning and libido so it is not out of the question that it can have an affect on your virility. RU is not officially approved for hair loss or even really approved for use by humans at all so it is understandable that there may be some side effects to it.

Welcome to the finasteride club man. It's a good place to be. So much more peace of mind since I've been on this drug

Some people report their jizz returning to normal, but I'm over a year in and my jizz is still watery, so don't get your hopes up. But as you say it's a small price for the benefits

My jizz is actually the same on the drug and my quality of orgasm increased for the first month and then levelled off again.

Yeah I've seen quite a few say that as well which is why I was thinking it might return to normal.

I was actually thinking about becoming a sperm donor (I know, passing on balding what a monster). I wonder if finasteride has made that impossible.

I don't want to poop the party but side effects from finasteride do not necessarily occur after only 1 month of use, they might start showing after several months, or even a year, but hey, as long as you don't notice any then go ahead and keep using the drug.

Good on you man.

that's bullshit. there is a reason the manufactures started adding all those side effects warnings to the drug.

Also, if you're at your optimal health for your age and have no other issues, then sure maybe the risk of side effects is really close to 1%.
but if you already suffer from low testosterone/ fatigue/ low energy/ have gyno/ have libido problems or erection problems and or fat or obese, then I 100% assure you that the risk of such side effects from the drug will be much much greater for you than the average joe.

Yes, the reason is they don't want to get sued. It's a precautionary measure that reflects a loud minority: a ragtag band of insane hypochondriacs who report that their teeth fell out and went permanently limp after touching a propecia pill once.

I definitely am open to the possibility that there are unknown side effects from long-term propecia use, but to my mind the risk-reward balance has always made sense with the drug. Losing your hair sucks balls. It's a death sentence to your youth and your happiness. I've seen the life of the bald guys around me and I do not want it.

That's the thing. The mental distress hair loss will cause is no joke. It's nothing short of a disease.

There was a time when I thought I would never go on propecia. But seeing your hair reach a bad enough stage will change your mind. Now I can only recommend to use it as your first measure. As many others I wish I had jumped on it sooner.

Motherfucker.. I thought I was out of the woods after being fine one month into the drug. Unfortunately I have to admit my erections have gone from fantastic to really bad in the past week.

I can never seem to catch a break against this disease.. Well, I guess I don't really have any other options but staying on it for now. Holding out hope my sexual health will eventually stabilize at baseline.

How will I cope on this Saturday evening boys? I think some drink suggestions are in order.

Sorry to hear, hopefully it goes back to normal, of course the best thing is to not panic. And probably to drink.

Should we think up some hair treatment themed cocktails? The minoxidil Mixer:
