Hi, I'm 36 and my hair was thinning, so four months ago, I started taking Propecia, Rogaine foam, and using Nioxin shampoo. Hair grew back pretty thick and was feeling good. The past couple of days, notice hair in my hands in the shower and when using the Rogaine. Also, notice the crown a bit thinnner the past couple of days.

Have you heard of these treatments efficacy stopping after only 4 months? Is it going to go into rapid full hair loss mode now?

Nioxin has little data backing it. The rest of your regimen is useful. Nioxin is a well known "short term" growth stimulant. That is, they will get you just past the warranty period and it will stop working. It contains basic skin agitators like Niacin that are not hair loss treatments, but in fact short term agitators that can stimulate some growth for about 3 to 6 months. This may be why you're seeing more of a shed now that you're approaching month 5.

As for the rest of your regimen, it is solid. And incremental shedding periods are part of the process, as your hair cycles out the bad and allows for regrowth of the good. It takes consistent use for up to 2 years before they finally reach their fullest effectiveness. What is normal however is the roller coaster. Expect to have good months and bad months until you've surpassed at least the 1 year mark. Then things start to level out. Evaluate your progress in increments of 6 months at a time, if possible.

I don't see Nizoral in your regimen but it is an imperative element to seeing results on Propecia and Rogaine. You can get it at the grocery store. Use once every 3 days and allow to soak for the duration of your shower. Swap off days with any shampoo of choice. Whether you continue with Nioxin is up to you, but keeping the regimen simple and focused on scientifically backed treatments will reduce the maintenance headache and relieve some strain on your wallet as well.

Good Luck.

G, for the Nioxin, I was on the System 2 Cleanser and Scalp Therapy. I can get off of the Cleanser for sure. Do you know anything about the Scalp Therapy though? I was thinking this was helping my longterm psorasis problem to a great degree. From what I understood, the Scalp Therapy is used to provide a healthy scalp which gives hair regrowth the greatest chance. One of these 2 (or maybe it was the Propeica or Rogaine) was helping my psorasis though. Thoughts?

Also, I have been using Neutrogena T-Gel shampo (coal shampoo) for years upon recommendation of my dermatologist for psorasis.
