Dr. Lee, I am curious to know what your opinion is on the use of Folligen as a Superoxide Dismutase? Is it effective? Does it work well when used together with Minoxidil? Is Tricomin a better choice? Thanks for any information!
SOD's (superoxide dismutases) are potent free radical scavengers, so they are thought to slow the aging process. That's fine, but male pattern baldness is really related not an aging process. NO (Nitric oxide) is a vasodilator. The rationale is this: if minoxidil is a vasodilator and promotes hair growth then NO should also promote hair growth, because its a vasodilator. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Minoxidil will stimulate the growth of hair follicles in cell cultures, so it is not dependent on its effect as a vasodilator.
Copper peptides have been used to promote wound healing and, by extension, it was thought that copper peptides (such as Tricomin) would be effective as a treatment for male pattern baldness. The manufacturers even began clinical trials for Tricomin to obtain an FDA approval and carried the studies through Phase ll. Phase ll trials are performed with a relatively small number of patients. The results of Tricomin were not convincing enough to spend the money on Phase lll trials, which is expensive because it usually involves thousands of patients.
Folligen contains copper peptides and is of the same ilk as Tricomin.
