Hair On Back Of Head Patchy Thinning

I'm sorry. I'm new here, not 100% on the rules so forgive me.

My hairline and my temples have been getting thinner and I assumed I had male pattern baldness.

However a coworker asked about what was going on with the hair on the back of my head. I didn't really understand what she was saying so I took a picture and saw this. Is it normal to lose hair on the very back of your head in patches like this with male pattern baldness?

I'm not sure what's going on here. I'm kinda freaking out.

Has anyone seen something like this?

Looks like mine, lol. But in my case the frontal receding started much later after massive shedding. Cause I have OCD I am very obsessed even with insignificant changes in my appearance. I've broken all my plans for this year after my hair loss. This was a disaster. Now I am shaving my head once a week and wear a cap even at home. I haven't been outside my house at all since the January of 2016. But I am already on treatments. Hope my hair wiil be in better condition until summer 2017. If not, then my war will only start.

I guess I should also state that I've suffered from chronic insomnia my whole life. The last year the lack of sleep has taken a toll on me. I wonder if that has anything to do with this.
