Hair Transplant After Coming Off Finasteride

Hi all - first just wanted to say really grateful this community exists! It's hard finding such a resource anywhere else.

My story: I was on finasteride for about 7 years. My erections have been weak for as long as I can remember - hard enough to masturbate but usually never enough for penetration. But I briefly stopped finasteride back in March, and I had some of the strongest erections I've ever had - penetration was never an issue. But I knew I didn't want to lose my hair, so about a month ago, I got back on a low dose of finasteride (0.5mg/day). Not long after, I started noticing weak erections and reduced libido again.

As of a week ago, I have stopped finasteride completely, and my erections seem back to what they were like in March. I really can't tell if this is all in my head, but I think being off these drugs has done wonders for my sexual function.

Now to my main issue going forward - I have a hair transplant scheduled in July (1700 FUE grafts in the hairline). I told my surgeon when I scheduled the appointment that I thought I had sexual function issues being on finasteride and would like to come off of it. He said obviously being on finasteride would be better than not for maintaining the hair I have, but he understood my position on the drug. He also said I'd likely need another hair transplant if I got off the propecia.

As you can imagine, I'm pretty frustrated with the effects these drugs have had on me, but I do want to put myself in the best position for the hair transplant I can. I still dermaroll (1x a week) and use minoxidil daily. Does anyone know of any alternatives or additions to my regimen that I could consider? I really don't think I want to reduce my DHT levels, as I do think I may be one of the unlucky ones here with these drugs.

I'm also wondering if I should even continue with this hair transplant. I've already put down a non-refundable deposit. There is definitely a concern that I might be wasting my money.

In any case, would really appreciate people's thoughts on all this!

Thank you!

I mean, if you are considering keeping your hair (and money) for another 20 years you need to find a way to maintain your hair and your grafts. If not finasteride it has to be something else that does the job without side effects - which, at this moment, is very hard/impossible imo.
Something else you keep in mind is at least you have a choice. Some people here are non responders to finasteride; some people would be very glad to trade weak erections/orgasms for a way to keep the hair loss stable. You are privileged

As far as I understand Fina and Duta would be the only true solutions at this time. Stopping it might make the hair transplant futile as you will continue to lose your 'native' hair around the transplant so you may end up looking funny w/ strands of hair in the middle of a scalp desert.

On the other hand, do you really wanna have the hairs on your head more erect than your penis?

Definitely not. I've decided I'm not going back on finasteride or dutasteride ever again. This hair transplant may be a waste then, unless some new treatment comes along?

You have very good chances of keeping the transplanted hairs but also have high chances to keep losing your hair around it which, if that's the case, will end up making you look funny with hair plugs like hairs. I honestly think it's a cosmetic (and financial) risk to go forward w/ the transplant if you are not on treatment.

Dude, you either commit to your transplant and try to maintain or rather keep your money. Buy an hair system instead.
Im not sure you realize there is no other options available at this moment
