Hi all,

Reading the Rogaine site (Hairstyling tips link below) for a guide as I have been really frusterated with my hair lately.

http://www.rogaine.com/men/hairstyling-tips

I thought of letting it grow a few more inches would help make a my hair a bit fuller and to avoid my hair sticking up at the back but everything just feels uneven.

According to the site, anyone with straight hair should get a cropped, layered cut. Can anyone provide a visual for this? I think I have an idea but I want something to show my stylist next time I hit the barber shop.

Thanks for the help and I'll post some old pics of myself from a year or so ago. This was before Rogaine and Propecia so my hair has gotten a little bit fuller.

My hair is really short in a few pictures and long in some. Any tips would be appreciated.

I like the fact they mention 'layered'. Yes if your hair is thick, it's a lot easier to layer, If your hair is 'thinning', the LAST thing you want to do is start layering as it thins the hair out.

Thanks all.

I think what they mean by layered is to make the side back really short and gradually have it longer towards the top of the head. Make sense to me but I just wanted a visual.

I usually shave at #2 clip. All stylist tell me #1 is a bit too short but I may reconsider. My hair looks decent after a nice buzz. I agree that the back and sides look darker then the top because of the lack of hair.

I read a few times to dye the hair as well. I was thinking of trying blonde streaks.

I used to highlight my hair to make it thicker, I really think it was a bad idea now though, It's not good for the hair at all, and coincidence or not, that's what started my hair loss, and if I could turn back time, I would never have done it

A lot of good advice here.

My hair is NW3 at present and I keep a similar style to Captain Combovers.

You could even buy a razor comb to help with keeping the sides short and blending from the top of the hair.
If I let the sides I grow in (they seem to grow fairly fast) I feel I look worse but with shorter sides - it really can make you look better.

Also, you could try toppik/nanogen. Although your hair is thinning, you have a lot of density and with a touch of concealer, short at the sides and some hair on top - it could look sharp and I think you would be fairly happy.

The only issue with short sides/hair on top is if you continue to grow the hair on top and shave the sides it will look like a flat top/extreme high and tight but with a razor comb or even going down a grade on the razor to a 3 and trim your hair on top (only take 5-10 mins a week) you can keep it a nice level.

I think I read on Rogaine site that streaks will not cause hairloss and read it elsewhere but who knows. Like you I used to put blonde streaks in my hair during my hardcore clubbing days and who knows if that's what started to f*ck up my hair.

I feel stupid contemplating streaks again. It was cool in college but looking at my peers at work, co-workers etc NO ONE has streaks. Ppl will think I am going through a crisis which is true but who wants to be transparent.

I bought Toppik and tried it twice and thought it was BS! Maybe I am doing something wrong which is why I bought the spray applicator and another item that was recommended. If it did make a difference it was very minor. Nothing magical like the website.

Interesting about the Razor comb and completely agree with the sides/back growing to fast! I think I might look into a razor comb. Thanks for mentioning
